Advice - red dot vs. standard scope

I'm familiar with standard scopes, but don't know much about the red-dot type. I'm looking to buy a scope to mount on my Mossberg 500 shotgun. My shots are in fairly dense woods and wouldn't be longer than about 75 yards. Ammunition is mostly 00 buckshot, but occasionally slugs. I'd appreciate any guidance or experiences that you've had. Thanks.

The only reason i don'et have one is they don't make one that works with out batteries. I'd hate for the thing to quit working about 30 seconds before you need to pull the trigger.:( IIMO a fixed 1X or 2X would be a better option or even a variable 1-5X.

For what you're wanting to use it for, a red dot is great. As long as the batteries stay good.

I find that Lithium batteries last well over a year.If you are concerned about it dying in 'battle',install a new one at the beginning of hunting season.
I have a Red Dot and a Holosite, and use them instead of a 'scout' type scope.

My hunting partner had one on one of his rifles and had no trouble with the batteries , He just forgot to turn it on and missed a chance at a real wallhanger ,Not only didn't get the buck he still has to live it down . [>:][>:]
