Mauser Question
 

A friend of mine, at work, has a 94 (or was it 95?) Swedish Mauser for sale, in 6.5 X 55mm. It has a Timney trigger, custom walnut stock, bolt re-work, and a B&L scope with Redfield bases. I know absolutely nothing about Mausers, but hear all good about the 6.5. He's asking $300. Is it worth it?

It could be a 94 0r a 96. I have had 2- 96's and they shot great. Provided that it's bore is in good shape it would be a shooter and a great cartridge. $300 is in the ballpark.

I know for sure that it's not a 96. We were talking about the 96's and 98's, and it was an earlier model.

If it's not a model 96 or 38, don't buy it. It will most likely not be safe for use with full power loads.

The Swedish M94 was the original arm chambered in 6.5x55. It was a carbine. The M96 was a slightly later development, and was a full length infantry rifle. The M38, or M96/38 was a short rifle. The M94 carbine is perfectly safe with any standard 6.5x55 ammunition, either SAMMI spec, or milsurp.

If its well done, its probably worth it.

If it were a 94 with its original stock and hardware intact and in original condition, it would be worth at least twice as much.[>:]

IMO I would not shoot European hunting ammo because it is usually hot than SAAMI specs.
Not sure about Hornady light magnums.
I shoot HornadyLM's in my Howa but won't shoot them in my Swede military rifles.
6.5x55 is one fine cartrdge!

ALL Swedish military Mausers, IN GOOD CONDITION, are safe to shoot with Swedish military ammo, or the equivalent thereof, pressure-wise.[&:] DON"T try to hotrod them, is all.:D
