Ruger 77/44

I'm thinking of getting a 77/44 Stainless--any thoughts or opinions on this rifle...does it handle reloads well?

I have one with a blue barrel. With rem 275 core-locks i can put three in the same whole at 50 yards. I've killed 3 deer with it and none of them have took a step. I'm actually selling mine for $350 dollars cause i ordered a custom muzzleloading. But you can't go wrong with that gun in brushy country.

Nate,
Broke down and got me one Friday. Took it out to the range and shot one big ragged hole with iron sights at 50 yards shooting 240gr reloads. It's a light and sweet shooting little rifle. I've got a Bushnell Elite 3200 on order...can't wait!

If memory serves, according to the Shooting Times magazine review of that gun, the magazine is a bit short and will therefore prevent the use of (long) 300 grain (or more) bullets.

That was a couple of years ago when the gun was first introduced. Ruger may have addressed this problem. Dunno...

I had a blued version, but sold it before I had the chance to shoot it. To me it seemed like a nice & trim brush gun.

biglmbass,
Thanks for the info...I reloaded some 300gr XTPs and they fit (w/ 1/16" to spare) if crimped at the first crimp only. All my 240s fit fine. The only problem I ran into was on the first shot, the clip stopped feeding. Upon dissasembing it, I found the spring had come out of its hole. It took awhile but I finally got it back together and haven't had any trouble since. I was shooting one big ragged hole @ 50 yards:) and about 2" at 100 yards. This is an accurate, light weight little brush gun.
