Encore?

Who has a 30-06 Encore? I was wondering what the recoil is like and if there would be much difference one way or the other with Synthetic or wood stock. With my bad shoulder the 30-06 is about all the recoil I can handle fromm the bench. I like several of the other barrels you can get for the Encore as well. Thanks.

RE: Encore?

I was the range last weekend, there was an Encore 30.30 shooter there, he seemed to be getting a great deal of recoil and it was very loud in comparison to the .270 and 30.06 he also was shooting.

The shooter had optics on the Encore and was benching the Encore after shooting 2" high at a deer from his tree stand. His results looked good at 50m and 100m. The stock seems a bit short for larger shooters, comfortable but small.

I am considering an Encore in .243 as a first deer gun for my sons.

The T/C Encore in 30-06 is a wonderful gun. May I suggest the "Limbsaver" recoil pad for the Encore? It soaks up plenty of recoil. The stock is very comfortable and I prefer the synthetic.
Good luck and good hunting

Thanks for the info. I found a real nice used one the other day in 308 but wondered how the recoil would be with a 30-06 barrel on.

If you're concerned about recoil what about going with a 243win. The Encore is a wonderful rifle/pistol. Just be warned that once you get started with Encores or contenders you'll never stop.

You are right there. I shot steel silhouettes for about ten years. Used a lot of Contender barrels. The 35 remington turned out to be my favorite all around barrel.

I had a 30-06 barrel for my Encore but after having rotator-cuff surgery, I traded it for a 308 and installed a Limbsaver pad and the difference in recoil is very significant. I realize that the downsized load made a difference, but I have the 12ga turkey barrel for the Encore and the Limbsaver pad does make a huge difference. If its deer only, go with the 308 or less. As long as the shot is where its supposed to be, dead is dead no matter what caliber you use.(as long as the caliber is within reason)

James B,
I have a 30-06 barrel on my encore with a cabelas outfitter 3-9X40 mounted on it. The recoil is manageable. I do want to get a limb saver recoil pad cause that will help. Do you need it, no. The first time out I shot 20 rounds through it wearing a t-shirt. I was sore at the end, but no more sore than 20 rounds through my model 70 compact in 7mm-08 using light magnums. Ive shot 150 grn up to 180 grn Norma's. All shoot great. My favorite load is the winchester supreme 168grn ballistic tip. Ive shot 3 shot, half inch groups at a hundred yards with it(does it consistently). Unbelievable gun, it does it all. It will get close to the same with black hills and norma ammunition.
