RE: What first deer gun?

Remington .30-06

If your gonna take long range shots, a .30-30 might not be what your looking for.

Remington Model 7 youth model in 7mm-08 caliber. As you grow older, you can cash in the coupon that comes with the gun for an adult sized stock, and keep the gun long enough to hand it down to your kids!;)

For woods hunting and anything under 100 yards I would recommend a .44mag. The recoil is minimal and the gun relatively light and short. I have a Ruger 77/44 that I have taken several deer with that my wife has recently started shooting and now I can't get it away from her for me to hunt with:D

My favorite Deer cartridge is the.270 Win.The recoil is mild. You won't out grow it. There are several for you to choose from, but take a good look at the 270.
Ruger Redhawk
