Remington 7400 Autoloaders
 

Anyone have any experience with these guns? Generally a bolt action shooter but looking at an auto. Will I lose that much accuracy? The weathermaster looks like a nice gun and I have always liked Remington shotguns. And yes I actually own a 710 (going to be my backup gun). Appreciate any recommendations and it doesn't have to be a Rem. Thanks Gary

The newer Remington auto should be a good gun. Most of them will group 1 1/2 to 2 inches at 1oo yards. Some do not handle handloads to well but a friend of mine has one and never has any trouble with factory loads. His has not jammed once in ten years. His is a 30-06.

My dad and brother both have one and they like them very much. I guy I work with had one. His had problems with firing pins breaking. I've got a 760 (pump) that I belive shares the same firing pin. I had one break on me as well. Other than that I have'nt heard of anything bad. As far as accuracy compared to a bolt action. You'll loose some. Not that big of a deal unless you intend to use it for competition.
As far as other choices. There's a Browning, Benelli, and HK in this class. The last three are also more expensive.

i have the 7400 auto in 270 jams alot, dad has it in 30-06 has no problems with his i guess i got a leman, changed to rem 700 sender bolt , love it

Thanks for the input guys. Still like the look of the Weathermaster but have never owned a nickel platted gun. Is glare and issue? Maybe I should just go with the black synthetic stock. Now I gotta find a way to rub some money together, think they go for around $600. Course then I gotta put a Leupy on it so hopefully I can get it done for less than a grand with rings and all.

Not to be mean but since you already own a 710 you might want something a bit more dependable than a 7400. One piece of junk in the gun closet should be enough.

Ouch! Sound a bit like a gun snob to me. Like to get together some time and go to the range with you to see if your bravado matches your shooting skills. Hey I was just looking for some info and really don't care for the critique on my gun closet. If you got some info on the 7400 then fine but if you get your kicks putting other folks down then maybe you have some issues that a hunting forum can't fix. If there are issues with the 7400 series I would love to hear em. If all you got is the same old tired elitist "mine is bigger than yours" crap then do the rest of us a favor and keep it to yourself.

Not a gun snob at all. Just prefer rifles that do what they are suppose to do and companies that have some grasp on quality control. The 7400 doesn't get the nicknames jammington and jammamatic for nothing. Not the most accurate of rifles either. Your money though, have fun.
