RE: 243 vs 270

To tell you the truth, I can't feet a great deal of difference in recoil between the two. I am talking about felt recoil. I know on paper the 270 should and does have more recoil but on the shoulder I don't feel to much difference. Maybe its just me. I have a bad shoulder and they all hurt a little. All but the 250 Savage that is. I think you would enjoy shooting the 270 and 130 grain bullets is all you would ever need for deer hunting. Have a good day.:)

I think there is a very noticable difference in recoil between the .243 and the .270. Not the recoil is bad or anything from the 270, but I do feel a difference. My .243 is a dream to shoot, I would stick with it:D

RE: 243 vs 270

I notice a big difference between the 243 and 270. I've stated before that I do not like recoil at all for some reason. I'm not a wuss. I wrestle and coach football and played collegiate rugby for 5 years. . Even though I love to shoot I don't like the recoil I can't explain it. A .270 is as much as I want to handle. I love the .25-06 though, sweet shooting with more of everything than a .243
I am thinking about putting on a pachmyr or limbsaver recoil pad on my ruger .270
Does anyone have experience with these? Maybe I'll start a new post.

Not knowing your recoil tolerance it's hard to say.To me the .270 is mild. When shooting at a deer I don't notice the recoil . For that matter I don't even hear it going off.The 270 is a much better deer cartridge then the 243.I would suggest shooting one and make your own decision. The 270 is a necked down 30-06 so if you can handle a 06's recoil the 270 will be no problem for you.

If you are considering a 270 why not just go ahead and get a 30-06? 150 grain round doesn't have that much more kick and you have multiple inexpensive choices in ammo. I prefer a 165 grain round and like they say when you are looking at a deer you don't feel recoil or sometimes even hear the shot. Amazing what a little concentration will do.......

For a deer only gun the 06 offers nothing over the 270 win. However the 270 will give you a flatter trajectory and ammo is the same price with loads of factory offerings...anywhere that stock 06 ammo will have 270 ammo available.

I think 270 is one of the best all around calibers .The factory loads that are avaliable and also if you reload you can really tweek it to perfection
