I've had my Colt AR-15 A3 H bar elite,stainless bull barrel,flat top model for 3-4 years and love it.It has the free floated barrel,aftermarket trigger,and all the accuracy things on it right from colt.I put a 6-24X-50mm Tasco World Class Plus scope and harris bipods on it and soon to put on a different grip(looks good).I use it mainly for ground hogs,crows and coyotes.I love it!

What type of accuracy do you get with your AR? Also, what is your preferred load/ammo/bullet weight/rate of twist?

Shooting in prone position with bipods,it's not unusual to "cloverleaf" 3 shots into the same hole at 100 yds.I've shot Remington ammo,black hills,UPC,federal,and some Ultramax i got from sportsmans guide.I haven't really noticed a huge difference in any of them,but I prefer the rem. Varmint loads,since I mostly use it for hunting groundhogs.I had really good luck with the blackhills too for the price.
I usually shoot a 52-55 grn bullet,and I think the rate of twist is 1 in 28,but I can't remember for sure.I'll have to look in my owners manual to see if it says and get back to you.

I'm guessing that 1-28 is not correct for your twist rate. That would be aweful slow.

Yep,you're right,that was a terrible guess.I went and looked in the manual and it's a 24" stainless barrel with 1 in 9 twist.I must have been thinking of my Rem. 700 ML.

I thought that sounded a little slow . Mine is also 1-9 twist. The folks at Bushmaster told me that with a 1-9 twist rate, that using bullet weights of 45gr.-75gr. would give me the best accuracy.

My elderly neighbor actually bought the same exact rifle as mine. He was sighting it in yesterday at 25 yards. He shot 3, five shot groups. Two of the groups made one ragged hole. Needless to say he was very happy. One of the groups was the first five shots ever fired out of his gun. (other than any the factory may have fired)

Well I have read everything that was written on this subject in these forums and have come to one conclusion. I hav just ordered my upper reciever from www.model1sales.com and got the 20'' AR15 Varmint Rifle Kit; .223 Rem; Stainless steel,1-8, fluted, $50.00 option; Black with swivel stud, $10.00 option; Standard bolt carrier; Versa-Pod, $55.00 option. I also ordered a match grade lower reciever. If you are wondering why I got the extras it is because I am the new spotter for our sniper with the Police Department I work for. I am certain that this weapon will be exactly what I need once I put a Bushnell 6-25X50mm glass on top. I have to have this shooting 1/4" groups at 100 yards to be accurate enough to kill a person. That should be enough motivation for anyone looking to buy an AR15 for accuracy. If I trust it to keep my other Officers lives going on then it must be a good rifle for killing the occasional ground hog or whatever other animal is going to be shot with it.

I would check on manufacture of that AR ,I do believe it is made buy hesse/Vulcan arms and they have been know to blow up .Just thought I would give you a heads up.Check ar15.com for thier opinions on hesse /vulcan arms ,They problably can post some pics of the failures of hesse ar's
