new rifle
 

hey everyone,
i am looking at getting a new rifle. i have a savage model 10 bolt action 300 right now and have killed many deer with it and know it will kill anything i aim it at. i am looking for a light, quick-handling rifle for specifically deer hunting. any suggestions? thanks for your input.

Try a short lightweight gun such as the remington model 7 in 7mm-08.

Can' t go wrong with a trusty Marlin leveraction. Easy and fun to shoot and the actions are fast as lightening in close quarters.

My vote is for the Remington Model Seven in the 7mm-08 also...;)

You didn' t mention what type of terrain that you hunt in. If you hunt thick cover and shots will not exceed 150 yards, then go with a Marlin 1895 Guide gun in 45-70. The rifle is fast handling and it will anchor the largest of whitetail or mule deer. If you hunt more open country and shots will not exceed 250 yards look to the Browning MicroHunter in 7mm-08 or 308. Quick handling, excellent fit and finish and usually very accurate.

actually i forgot to mention but the main reason i brought this up is because i dont think it is necessary for me to be carrying my big ' ole 300 in to the thick brush and woods of northern minnesota where my shots are rarely over 100-150 yards.

Since you have a .30 cal try a small flat shooting gun like a .270. I use mine for deer and love it. I have also shot a friends .243 and thats a nice light short action gun.

I wouldn' t change a thing. You can hit everything you aim at, right? Maybe drop down to a lighter bullet but you have big deer up there and seem very comfortable with your gun. Don' t people say something about " don' t fix it if it ain' t broke"
