Remington 597 .22 rifle

Anyone have experience w/ a Remington 597 .22 & if so, what do you think of it?

I have one that was given to me as a gift. (used gun) It shoots well.

Here's the critique of them: when they first came out, there were problems with the magazines--leading to all kinds of feed issues. Remington upgraded the magazines (I believe a better spring) and, if my reading of reports from other shooters online is correct, that seems to have fixed the problem for them. Those magazines are readily available.

I had some slight feeding issues with mine and have a friend who has one that hung up all the time. He hated it.

Not long ago, we replaced the magazines and took them to the range. There were no jams with either in the 50 or so rounds we fired through them.

As an additional note, we were both using federal 36 grain hollow points. He switched over to some older Remington ammo for the last ten or so shots. His group tightened up considerably. I'm inclined to run some Remington ammo through mine and see if I get a similar result.

Rem. 597

I prefer the Ruger 10/22 but owned a SS Laminated model for a few years before giving it to my Dad as a gift. He still has the rifle. The gun is accurate and I did buy one of the newer magazines for the rifle. The mag that came with it was totally plastic but it did work well just seemed really cheap. The newer mag is made from pot metal and the spring is a little heavier. There isn't anything wrong from my experience with the (1) I owned but the Ruger 10/22 feel like a much better constructed firearm.

I have one of the older 597 Jamamatics. After the jamming problems were solved, it is a decent low-end .22 with good accuracy,
