I wish I got the deadnutz 1 piece rings&base. Get it!

I have the leupold grand slam I think it is/was called? 3-9x, has a ballistic reticle with bullet drops out to 300yards! I highly recommend it!

shoot the 3in, federal or remington sabots.

You'll love it!

From what I've heard they are pretty accurate. I often thought about getting a 220 but if and when I do I think I'll get a 20 ga. IMO the 12 is just a lot more then needed.

just a question, theres no right or wrong answer
why did you choose the 20ga vs the 12 ga version of the savage??

The reason I would choose the 20 over the 12 is simply that IMO the 20 will kill a deer just as dead as a 12 without all that unnecessary recoil. Both have pretty much the same velocity and trajectory. Albeit the 12 has a bit more energy. But not so much as to make a difference on a whitetail. Not being recoil shy but I know what its like pattering a shotgun for turkey hunting. So I'm pretty sure sighting in a scope would not be a very enjoyable experience either.
So if I were to buy a 20 ga 220 I would get a one piece Weaver style base and rings and either a Leupold Grand Slam scope or a Nikon Prostaff in a mid-range vaiable like a 2-7 or 3-9

Yes I think thats the reason (LOWER RECOIL) that I've heard, most people select the 20 ga
I own the 12 ga version, and most of my friends have purchased the 12 ga version, but from what I've read the 20 ga seems to be more popular
if you hand-load the lyman slugs seem to work rather well, if you select the loads that provide the higher velocitys,, loads that push the velocity up as they stabilize the 20 ga version best at the faster velocity levels in several of my friends experience

this does not seem to be an issue with the 12 ga version, keep in mind these slugs are loaded inside a plastic shot-cup,
that compresses and grips the slug, and rifling, in the shotguns bore,
(if its a rifled bore designed for slugs)
as its forced down the bore, the slug itself never touches the shotgun bores rifling , which acts as a sabot thats discarded as it leaves the bore.
you can buy a mold and cast your own at a considerable cost savings if you reload.

these work reasonably well in my rifled slug gun

This is load data for the 525 Gr. Lyman Sabot Slug. Its tough to format for the forum but the list reads of follows.

The 12 vs 20 debate is kind of like, would you rather use a 375H&H on a whitetail or a 458 Lott?

Also something like the 12 has more power at 300yards. LOL. 200 yards is plenty far for a shotgun slug IMO. And I'd be more than willing to bet the 20ga is more accurate at 200yds.
