Beretta AL391 or Silver Pigeon???
 

My mom needs a low recoil gun. We have looked at the Silver Pigeon O/U 28 ga. and the 391 sporting model 20 ga. Which one would be the better gun???

I am thinking the 391 because of more of a payload and ammo.

If recoil is the issue, then I would go with any of the Beretta gas operated guns. They will lessen the felt recoil to the shooter somewhat. Heavy clothes, or a recoil pad would be an added help. My wife uses a recoil pad that goes under her bra strap. She swears by it. Of course practice with light loads will help too.

Light loads might not operate the gas op recoil. I am a big fan of the o/u, but would likely opt to the 20 vs the 28. What is the use of the gun, hunting? Sporting Clays, trap???? Get a Sims Vibration Labs Recoil pad and have it installed or DIY. These are great, I put one on my .338 and it reduced recoil by 50% or better.

Either is not a bad choice, I just parsonally don' t like the berettas. If you want the auto, I' d look at the Benelli' s. More reliable w/ lighter loads and IMHO, easier to shoot. Like I said, JMHO!

I would have to agree with Dave. The 390/391 series of Beretta' s are really some fine autos. I have several of them and also use 687 and 682 target o/u' s. The 391 is a popular gun for children and women in trap and sporting clays. They can me set up for little to no recoil.

As for the Beretta (gas operated) not being able to handle light loads? That' s simply is not true. I use one in singles trap and have shot some very light loads ie. 1oz@ 875-900 fps. and 2 of my 391' s have digested 10,000' s of them without a hitch. I have tried that same load in 4 different Benelli' s and all refused to cycle them. The Benelli is inertia/recoil operated and will not take real light loads, though some will swear by them for waterfowl.

Gun fit is very important in how recoil is felt and how it shoots.Whatever gun you choose it' s worth the effort to make sure it is properly fitted.
