Savage .308
I would like to know about the accuracy of the Savage 11G in .308 Winchester.
I just ordered one yesterday and it won' t be in for about a week, now I can' t think about much else. :) Anyone have one that they would like to tell about? |
RE: Savage .308
It should be very accurate. The only complaint I' ve ever had was their trigger, which is an easy fix. The 308 is usually a very accurate round, and the short action makes it even better due to it' s rigidity. Remember, this is the most common round used for both police and military snipers. You' ll just have to spend some time at the range and find the particular brand and load of ammo it likes.

RE: Savage .308
Well, just to brighten your day, Savage is rated the most accurate gun right out of the box!! They also have a brand new adjustable trigger they just came out with, that is getting rave reviews!! I' d op for one of their stainless guns in the new .270 WSM caliber!!;)

RE: Savage .308
Thanks guys, as far as the police/military sniper reason goes, that is one of the main factors of why I chose that caliber. Also< I love the idea of the short action. I have a Savage Model 110 in .243 WIN, but that is the long action. Just doesn' t look right to me. Although the darn thing is incredibly accurate. Shoots close to 1 " all the time with 80 or 100 grain bullets.
The twist on the .308 is 1 in 10, so I' m assuming it will like the Heavier bulletts ((150-220)?? What do you think? I will be handloading for this rifle. Stainless steel? I personally just don' t care for the looks of it. I know that' s strange and all, but I like the traditional look of blued steel and wood. Just a preference, nothing personal, because I can see the advantages of the SS. |
RE: Savage .308
1 in 10" is the standard twist rate for 30 caliber firearms. It will handle any load made for it. Most hunters use 150, 165, or 180 grain loads depending on what the game is. The aforementioned snipers usually use the 165 grain,FMJ, target bullet.

RE: Savage .308
Although I don' t own one, I do know Savage has greatly improved from what they used to be.The 308, although used heavily by the military, for some reason has been overlooked and underated by many hunters. It' s a great round, very accurate, with lots of hitting power. I' m sure you' ll be very pleased with your choice:)

RE: Savage .308
Hey KENTUCKY BOY,
Which gun manufacturer made that M118? Also, what is that scope? |
RE: Savage .308
finally some who agrees with me that blued steel and a walnut stock are what a rifle should be made out of.
