Ruger M77-V....Buy it?
 

Quick question; What kind of a deal do you all think this is?

USED- Ruger M77-V .308, medium weight varmint barrel, blued metal, wood stock, floor-plate magazine. $449
I know that some of you are not " Ruger-men," but those of you who are, what do you have to say??

I am definitely not against Rugers by any means because I own a few of them but that sounds like it might be a premium price for that gun. I' m not an expert on used gun prices for sure so maybe somebody else can help out here also.

I too think you could do better than $450. I know that my local Wally world had Ruger M77 stainless synthetic rifles in 30-06 and 270 for $400 even. I would shop around a little more or get the 270 WSM you neighbor has.

Try to talk them down a little, or ask to try it out first. I have a .308 vt and it is a great shooting rifle, especially if you handload go to guntest.com and go to the " tools" tab, it features the Mark IIVT as the best bang for the buck. I purchased mine new 6 years ago for $469 NIB.

If you like the .308 round, and like a solid rifle, you can' t go wrong. The trigger on the vt' s can be adjusted, however I have not heard of many who messed with the trigger. It is good as is.

PS ask the guy why he wants to sell it....I bet he wants to get a big whompin' magnum. If that is the case, buy it...it is so much fun to shoot. Top it with a springfield gen 2 scope.

mainehunter, I' m sure you can do much better then 449.00 for a used Ruger M-77.Check on www.gunsamerica.com. Chances are you can find a NIB for about the same or less then the 449.00.Even BassPro a couple months ago had Ruger M-77 in 300Win Mag NIB for 429.00. It was a Blued w/Walnut stock.Granted it wasn' t a VT but was a magnum chambering....The VT is a nice rifle if you aren' t going to carry it much. They do get heavy toting them. By the way I am one of the Ruger men who thinks allot of the Ruger M-77' s.Or any Ruger for that matter.

I love Rugers. I deer hunt with a M77 in 6.5 x 55 and have 4 single action Ruger pistols. Sounds to me like the guy is trying to get back what he paid for it new.

New, this rifle sells for around $600. Med varmint barrel and wood stock raises the price about $150-200.

I bought a new Savage 11G in .308
Very happy with it.

The ruger m-77-v is more expensive than a regular m-77 but its worth it. My dad has one in .308 that will shoot the exact same hole every shot at 100yds. Of course this is with 168gr. BTHP Match ammo shooting from a bull bag. But this is the tightest shooting rifle I' ve ever seen. His is blue/ laminated with a Nikon monarch 5.5-16.5x44.

I' m sure that it' s worth the extra $. My decision however was based on carrying this rifle all day while deerhunting. I have a rifle with a bull barrel and after a few hours the extra weight gets tiring.
