CVA Hunter 45-70

I've been thinking about buying a 45-70 to use here in Ohio for deer gun season. I may use it for bear hunting and if I ever live long enough to draw a moose tag in NH/Maine. I didn't want to have a bunch of money wrapped up in it, so I'm looking at a CVA Hunter. Does anyone know much about the CVA Hunter? Would it be suitable for what I'm wanting or should I look at a Marlin 1895?

These are two different classes of rifle in my opinion. I've not shot a cva, but I believe they are just an entry level single shot. I'm sure it will shoot well, and get the job done. But it's entirely different from a marlin lever. I suppose it depends on what you want. I like lever rifles, and wouldn't really care for a single shot. But if that's what you want, go for it. I can't speak on the quality of a cva, I don't think I've ever handled one. The quality on the marlin should be good.

Check out Henry's new 45-70 single shot. It looks sweet.
I took a NH Moose. The herd has plummeted and I expect them to close the season eventually.

I would also look at the CVA Scout V2 45/70 with muzzle brake. Its stainless and has a little bit better designed action release. The brake can be removed but you will need a thread protector. Ive seen them for sale in the $350 range.

I wish they offered it with a longer barrel and suitable for Ruger #1 load data.

Well I picked up a CVA Hunter today. New out the door for $209. Now its time to look for a scope!
