7mm-08 new ground hog gun

I posted earlier about my 7mm-08 shooting sub MOA groups at 100 yards with Varget and 140gr NBT... Anyhow were I live I have I have fields behind my house and I've ranged the wood line with range finder and its 300 + yards to wood line... Anyhow I see this ground hog pop up out there on edge of field so I go to get my 22-250 to shoot this hog and I remembered my son shot all my ammo last summer at a hog in this same spot... So I figured heck I'll try my 7mm-08 with BDC reticle and see what happens... Well I I set up on my sand mound and snap in on him... The gun was sighted in a little high at 100 so I opted to use second dot and squeezed one off and I just missed him by a hair... Chambered another round and used second dot and squeezed off another round and DUSTED his posterior off!!! I'd say it's ready for deer season

Nice! I've never seen a groundhog sit still after being missed like that however. Did you wait until he popped back out?

When I read your title my first thought was "this guy got a 7-08 for ground hogs?"
i like this chambering. It is a dandy deer cartridge and the 2 I have are really accurate.

I hate the suckers!! Had to put down an exceptional horse once because it broke it's leg in a barrow. Hateum so much one day I hadn't loaded up any .22-250 rounds and a buddy called me saying his field was loaded down with ground hogs and if I could come over and kill some. I broke out my .30-06 that I had some speedy little 110 grain Speer's for longer range yote slaying. Talk about pink mist!!! Killed 12 of them suckers that day with 12 nice greasy spots where they had been :D I don't care what I'm carrying, I see a ground hog, it's goinna die!!!

yeah, I like'em about 300 yards facing straight away, with my 6.5 set upon the bipod with rear support, message the trigger and the last thing to go through his mind is his azzhole.

Yea he moved about 5 yards or so and just kinda froze... Then it was bang pop

This reminds me of a time many years ago in PA when fall turkey overlapped bear season. I was positioned at a good vantage point watching a hillside when a flock of turkeys were working their way toward me. Being young and foolish I set the crosshairs of my 300 Win Mag on a big tom. When that 180 gr Core-lokt hit him there wasn't much left

LOL yep them feathers will make some of the hardest to open bullets flower out like a lily.

aim at the top of the drumstick, then move the crosshairs 3" towards the tail, they flop some but settle down once their guts falls out. do it right and there is no damage unless your fond of giblet gravy.
