Browning X Bolt

Hey guys, I'm new here. I just wanted to get some opinions on a purchase I made today.
A little history of my self. I'm from WV and have been hunting for the last 42 years, and a reloader. I've been a Ruger guy for many years and have been hunting with a No-1 25-06 for the last 17 years. Well as I'm getting older I've been looking at a all weather, lighter rifle to hunt with. After my research I settled on a Browning X Bolt Stainless Stocker in a 280 rem. 30 years ago I owned a 700 280 but didn't keep it long, but always regretted not keeping it. So my question is what do you guys think of this rifle and dose anyone have any good loads that you're willing to share.
Thanks for any input

I had an A Bolt back in the day, and it was an amazing rifle. I have no experience with the new X Bolts, but i can't see browning putting out a substandard product.

Proud owner of a Browning X-bolt Stainless Stalker in .338 WM.

I wish all my gun were as good !

However, not a reloader - but I do like Hornady manufactured ammo.

I have taken quite a bit of game with a .280. A 140 Accubond pushed by IMR 4350 would be a good place to start.

I have used a 160 grain pill on larger game such as elk, kudu, et. For the 160 load I have not been completely happy with the Barnes bullets and have settled on the old standby Nosler Partition.

Mostly I just load the 140 grain bullet and use it for nearly everything.

I have had a bunch of the old Browning Safari and the A bolts. All were excellent rifles. The X bolt is as good as the older ones. I agree with Big Uncle on the 140 grain loads. I use tthe 140 grain Hornady for elk in my Weatherby, and they plain work.

Thanks guys for the info. I have on hand some IMR 4350 that's what my 25-06 likes, I also have some 7828 and 4064. Looks like I have a place to start.
Thanks again

I have been hunting with an Abolt stainless stalker in .270 for over 15 years. I have had zero trouble with it. It carries well and points well. Killed lots of deer and a few coyotes with it. Nice rifle!
