Savage 99 .300 SAV
 

When I was eleven ( About 14 years ago) I read an article on the Savage 99 in a hunting magazine. I've wanted one since then. Found a decent deal last week and snatched it up. The wood is really nice, one little nick on the stock. The blueing is good, typical wear around the receiver from carrying it. Overall, in great shape for a 1946 rifle. I've shot 10 rounds through it, at a gallon jug about 50 yards away. Shot well. I'll get it on the bench next week maybe and see what she can really do though. Just thought I'd share.

Congrats! I've been on the lookout for a good '99 for years. I just have not found the right one yet! Since I have started reloading I would like to find a good older one in .300 Savage or .250-3000. In a newer model, I'd go for a .243 or .308. With such a long production run and different variants, you need to do your homework on the '99's values! I have seen a few shoddy ones that were well over priced, looks like you've got a good one though! Again, congrats and enjoy!

Great rifle...looks like an EG model. I recently picked one up in 250-3000 in the same EG model manufactured in 1950. I have several of these rifles and they are some of the favorite ones in my safe...love love love the 99's! Lots of deer taken with the 300 Sav over the years. Congrats!

Based on what I could find it's an eg made in 1946. I think that's a pretty common one. I got this because of it's good condition, wasn't drilled for a scope, and the price was right. Pretty happy with it so far. I've got a couple crop damage permits still and hopefully can roll a doe with it sometime in march . I'll post back once I get her on the bench and shoot a few groups!

Still have a couple 99's. I had a couple auctions and scaled back (Old age), but just could not get rid of the 99's. A .300 is good. I call it a medium round. Does not kick much, usually really accurate, and hits deer hard. I use Remington corlockts in mine. If you look around, the .303's are usually cheap because ammo is scarce. Graf is making brass again so it would be a deal if you come across a cheap one. I still use mine once and a while.

I intend to add more 99's as I come across good deals... Was working on a deal for a 7mm-08 but the guy sold it before I could get to it. I would like to add one thats tapped for a scope. This one wasn't drilled and I'm leaving it as is. But would like to add one with a scope to the collection.
