Savage Axis - Youth
After reading reviews of this rifle I decided to buy one for my grand daughter in 243 Win. as a Ho-Ho gift. I am here to attest to the value of this rifle. I bought it from my usual gun dealer for under $300, tax included. Put a Meopta Meopro 3-9x42 scope on it and headed to the range with a couple of different 100 gr. factory loads. Other than the rather stiff trigger, I was very pleased. She was elated. Late last week, I cooked up a few hand load combinations and was able to match one up dang well to the rifle, grouping at about 1.25-1.5 MOA time after time. If it holds up well over the next 4-5-6 years, then for sure this will be a very good choice for an intro rifle.

I have held several, shot 2. Fit, finish and stock quality are what you'd expect from a $300 gun. Both of the 2 I shot had stiff triggers, on 1 I helped the owner trim a little off the trigger spring which helped tremendously. Both rifles were accurate with factory ammo. 1 was a 243 youth, MOA rifle using 100 gr Core lokts. The other a 30'06 is a 1.5 MOA rifle using 150 gr Core lokts. I have no doubts that both could be consistent sub MOA with tailored ammo.
