Slug Gun

I m looking to buy a slug gun for this upcoming hunting season. Anyone have suggestions on a good slug gun and preferred 20 or 12
gauge?

I shot the savage 220 before. I was impressed how accurate it was for a 20ga. I believe they make a model in a 12ga but don't know the model number

I bought a 220 last year and love it so far.

The Remington 870 seems to be one of the most popular slug shotguns. Look up the Model 870 Express Deer gun. It is in 12g.

That's a pretty open ended question.
What action do you prefer (pump, bolt, auto)?
What's your price range?
Rifled or smooth bore?
Scope or iron sights?

I use a Benelli SuperNova with a 20" Badger rifled barrel. 3x9 scope. Very accurate using Remington Accutips slugs, 3 deer taken @100 yards, 2 being neck shots.

I own a few.. Start with I.M.O the best all around.. Encore 12g just stupid accurate. H& R Ultra slug 20 g very nice and priced below $350 .. 870 Not bad but wont shoot same groups as others at 100y. Each gun prefers different ammo

MajorWoods asked some excellent questions !!!

Now I have many slug guns, I do like the 20ga over the 12ga for various reasons: over weight of the gun, less recoil, more accurate, can/will take deer size game including black bear just as well as the 12ga.

Lets talk shotguns: My favorite is my Savage 220f just a damn tack driver, next would be my H&R Ultra Deluxe (single shot) heavy in weight and slightly behind the savage as far as groups. These two would be dedicated slug guns.

If you want a combo type of shotgun that comes with two barrels I would opt for one with a rifled/cantilever barrel, I have a few, I have two Remington's 11-87 in 12 & 20ga, also have a Mossberg 500 combo in 20ga. A great deal of a shotgun. Whatever shotgun you get, get a decent scope I like the 3-9x40, Leupold VX-2.

Ammo: Sabots for rifled barrels, for the 20ga use the 3", for 12ga. use the 2-3/4"

Perfer a pump. Rifled barrel. Scope and price does not matter. Just want to get a accurate shooting gun

If a pump is what your looking for with a rifled barrel, get one with a cantilever scope mount rail. I would opt for a combo you will get more bang for your money. Dick's Sporting Goods has great deals and if you wait another month or two the deals will be better. The Mossberg 500 combo and the Remington 870 combo comes with the rifled/cantilever barrel and a 26" or 28" vent rib barrel with some chokes. The Mossberg goes for $350 now, in a month or two it will be near the $300 mark with the Remington 870 selling for about $100 more with sale or not. Both are well proven shotguns, both in your choice of 20ga. or 12ga., both are the same when it comes down to accuracy, both have great customer service, the 870 seems to be made better but that isn't true, both are made well. It comes down to personnel choice.

But if you want one of the best accurate shotguns on the market then no question the Savage 220f

I have the 870 in 12 gauge with the rifled barrel and the cantilever scope mount with a 3x9 Nikon scope, the recoils is about the same as a heavy birdshot load.I use the Hornady Sabots 300 grain. I bought the 870 because if I didnt like it as a slug gun I thought I could switch barrels and have another good bird gun. You should take how you hunt into consideration , do you sit on the edge of fields or do you just hunt in the woods.
