".....off of a bench."

I think you missed my point.

All I hear is; can cover the holes with a dime, nickel, quarter, one ragged hole, etc.

So do you mean locked down tight in a gun vise or someone actually shooting the damm thing................. LOL

I like my Marlin 39A Golden. Made a bunch of "speed loaders" out of bent aluminum arrows. Can refill the 18 round tube in less than 10 seconds. Can't imagine how many thousands of rounds have been through it...

Default Best 22

quote=Ezbagr;4022260]Tundar10 has it right. The Anshutz is the real deal. My dad has one and it will shoot a 5 shot 1 hole group at 50 yards off of a bench.[/quote]

That is about equal to a Glenfield model 25 bolt action made by Marlin. My brother could shoot a 5 shot group off hand with all 5 hole's touching at 50yrd's. That was with open sights. I could never do it. Too bad I lost in in a fire.

Most 22lr ammo won't do that at 50 yards. But with some good target ammo I'm sure it's a shooter. I use Eley Club Extra in my Rem 513t 22lr. I have three of them and they will out shoot me. I wouldn't mind trying the new Rem 547. I have shot a 93/100 with 3x offhand on a AR-5 target at 25 yards once. That's as good as I'll ever do but I'll keep trying. LOL I do like shooting offhand it makes you a better all around shot. It wasn't until I started playing with competition ammo that I learned 22lr are more than just for plinking. A wise man once told me that a 22lr rifle can be as finicky about ammo as any gun you'll ever own. I believe him now. 5 shots 50 yards same hole world champion shooting if done regularly.

Magnum Research 22lr Barracuda Or you could build a Ruger 10/22 to be just a good if not better.

depends what kind of 22 you are looking for. as for semis the 10-22 is a good choice. if it a bolt action you want there are quite a few to choose from. ruger, remington, and marlin would be my choice. all of those are accurate guns.

I didn't miss your point. Anybody that knows anything about shooting a rifle knows that shooting from a vise is how to check the accuracy of a rifle. I just mean that if it would do that off hand that would tell you what it would do in a vise. We were shooting Remington T22's. The Ruger is my favorite in an auto loader. If I were going to buy another bolt action, I would buy a Marlin.

There may not be as much you can do with a Marlin 60 as you can with a 10-22, but it's what I had in my safe when I got the bug to do some tinkering. Boyd's stock, MCARBO springs, Sweet .22 scope, and here she is:

Here's my new toy, a CZ 455 American. Just mounted the Mueller 4.5-14x40 APV the other day, I haven't had it to the range yet. I just hope it shoots as well as the marlin!
