RE: Charles Daley Shotguns Revisted

I put another 500 rounds thru the 20ga field hunter over the July 4th holiday weekend. I finally broke down and clean it afterwards. Still functioned flawlessly, but it was nasty. It had 1500 rounds or more since the last time I had cleaned it, so I guess it was due a good cleaning.

I have been looking seriously at the Charles Daly o/u's. So after I read this thread, I looked up their warranty policy (thank you, 1shot). The only thing in the policy that gives me pause is the term "unreasonable use". If I shoot 150 rounds through it every weekend at the trap range, it could very well be deemed "unreasonable" by the manufacturer. So could 50 rounds. I just don't like those hazy, catch-all, legalese terms much. I'll keep looking and saving. Thanks again for the insightful commentary and first-person reviews of the guns

I have 3 , 3" 12gau 28"syn that I duck and goose and dove and pheasant hunt and shoot sporting clays . So far 4-5000rnds
20 gau 28" syn that I dove and duck and pheasant hunt and skeet so far 2-3000 rnds
28 gau 26"syn that I shoot skeet and plan on dove and pheasant hunt 5-600 rnds
I love to use them they are lite and don't seem to recoil bad.
The 12 had a problem with some 3" shells ,it was fixed and returned quickly
The one thing I found ,don't slowly close the bolt by hand ,I did and the bolt handle broke ,I called and they sent 2 handles takes 2 min to fix.

Well, after close to 30 cases or approximately 7,200-7,500 rounds through my little 20ga Charles Daly semi-auto Field Hunter, I broke the operating handle on the bolt. I don't know exactly how I broke it, but I know when I broke it, but I broke over the Thanksgiving holiday. The only thing I can think of is that eventhough it was in a hardcase, there was some gear and stuff that got thrown on top of the case that had my shotgun in it. When I took it out of the case later that evening after I got home, it was broke.

I have contacted Charles Daly's service dept and requested a new handle, and let me know if I need to purchase it, whether they are going to send it free of charge, or if I need to send the shotgun back to them (eventhough i don't know why I would). I'll keep you guys informed of CD's customer service, as they have had a not so godd reputation in that area.

I had the post about the CD jamming. I am not trashing them at all and also feel they are a good value but. . . . The gun did malfunction after approx 200 rounds. After a little tinkering it seems that the minor problem has been resolved. I have been considering the purchase of one but I think I will wait a little longer and see how my buddies holds up. Hey, what are friends for?

I broke a bolt handle also They sent me 2 in the mail for free. I was told that if I slowly let the bolt close it may cause stress on the handel when it is fired . They recomend that I just push the button and let the bolt close on it's own.
