700 CDL SF 30/06 or 300wsm

I saw a 700 CDL SF and now I'm really interested just can't decide between the 300 wsm or the 30/06. Does anyone have one of these. What are the advantages of the fluted barrel. I know the 06 ammo is cheaper, easier to find, less recoil but are there any real advantages of the 300 wsm. I have a 280, 25/06, 7mm mag, so I'm looking for something different.

300 WSM is a great choice and more versatile than the '06.

Please explain how the WSM is more versatile than the '06. The original poster stated that "ammo is cheaper, easier to find" for the '06 so we can only assume that he does not reload.

Both are great calibers but the decision should be based on what he is going to do with it. If he is hunting whitetail deer the 06 would IMO be better. If he is a western hunter the .300wsm gives a bit more power/ range and might be a better pick especially for elk. If he is a collector then they both should be bought.:patriot:

The fluted barrels supposedly dissapate heat better and make for a good stiff barrel, without the added weight! I think it is mostly cosmetic though. I have a 700 CDL Special Edition in 6 MM Rem. It is a great gun! I can't say anything as to your choice of caliber, but the gun is a great choice!

looking at the guns you already have,if i had to, i would get the .300 wsm just because the 7mm and 30-06 have pretty close ballistics. You live in kansas so whitetail, i dont think there are bear there? maybe mule deer? i wouldn't buy either. Use your 7mm. that caliber has enough power and range for almost anything in north america. I'd keep the money and by something unique, caliber or cosmetically.

I'm still looking around. I do reload and I buy ammo to start out some times. I just like the fluted barrel and was trying to determine the best since the 300 wsm was 200 less than the 06. I'm still thinking but will probaly pass and look for 700 cdl 35 whelen just have something bigger.
