Default 6mm Remington

Just picked up a rem 700 ss synthetic. Ballistics look good just looking for opinions, favorite loads, thought it may be a good calibre for my grandson to hunt whitetails.

Default Recall from the 90's

Two older aquaintances had a 6mm Rem and a .257 Roberts.
And I had a .35 Remington. Boy were we all overgunned!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know much about that cal but I would go with a heavy bullet for deer since recoil should not be a problem.

The 6mm Rem. is a great deer cartridge. My first deer rifle was a Ruger 77 chambered in the 6mm, I had more deer drop in their tracks with that gun than any other cartridge that I have owned since then. I wish I would have never parted with that old rifle.

Did Nosler ever introduce the 95 gr. Accubond that was rumored about for the .243 and 6mm? I would think it would be a real winner for Whitetails.

If not the Partition is probably offered in a good weight for deer.

I never saw the need to use a premium bullet in either the 6mm or the 243. I have had great sucsess with Speer Hot-Cor bullets or Seirra Game King, never once having any issues using them on deer. Both are very accurate, reliable and affordable hunting bullets.

I had a .243 and used nothing but good old 100 gr Hornady Interlock bullets out of it. As I recall I shot 11 or 12 deer with that rifle/bullet and all but one dropped where he stood. As for the 6mm, IMO it is a slightly better cartridge than the .243, especially for the reloader. The problem as I remember is they both came out around the same time but Remington's version had a different twist rate than the Winchester and sales for the .243 rocketed while the 6mm (I think in the beginning it was labeled the .244 Remington) sales were not up to par. By the time Remington realized their error, the .243 had a strong head start. But I am sure no deer would ever notice the difference between the two.
