280

Im going to Wyoming next season on a mule deer and antelope hunt and considering getting a 280 for the trip instead of my 300birthday ultra mag sendero just wondering if anybody has any thoughts

I have a 280 and plan to use it for elk if I don't get one during archery season. It has light recoil and does the job. I shot a 300 lb cow elk last year with it. She never took a step. The ammo may be a little hard to find so I would take extra with me. Mine is a rem 700 mountain rifle. it weighs around 6.5 lbs so carrying it all day isn't a concern. good luck with your choice.

I just bought an X-Bolt Hunter in 280 and I love it. It weighs a good pound less than my Model 70's. Bruse is right...ammo can be a pain to find and the variety isn't the greatest. If you don't reload I'd take more than you need.

As far as I know, Browning and TC (Venture) are the only 2 current makers that chamber anything in a 280. Gunbroker is a good place to start looking.

Edit: I guess Remington does too.

The .280 Remington is a great caliber suitable for any U.S. game other than the great bears. As far as ammo,no you can't find it as easily as other popular favorites. However, many major manufacturers have great loads in various bullet weights. Most specialty ammo dealers can order it for you if they don't already have it.If you get one, just be careful because it will likely become your caliber of choice.

The 280 would be an excellent choice and will do the job nicely if you do your part.

.280

It will be just fine plus that 300 is too big for antelope. there a small thin skinned animal. that .280 is a flat shooting gun.

Great choice. I have a mountain rifle too...love it. Personally, I'd take that over a .300 um any day.

The 280 is flat shooting like a 270 and power like a 30.06. A great cartridge that gets over looked.

The 280 is a great choice. Out of all of my guns, my 280 is my favorite hunting rifle for everything.
