Default H&r .243

Hey y'all. New to the forum and was just wanting to get some info on h&r 243's. Don't really know a lot about h&r but a buddy is sellin one for around 150 says his father bought it and has bad shoulders and fired 4 rounds out of it. Good buy or turn and run?

H&R usually has a decent reputation. The .243 is a very dependable round for multiple uses. I would snap that gun up as fast as possible.

$150 is a good price for a deer hunting rifle. I'd snap it up if it's in good shape. Worse comes to worse, you'll get most of your money back in a trade.

The H&R rifles are Plain-Jane and not much more than that. If you can get one that shoots decent groups, the 243 Win. is deer slaying set up. The trigger is likely to be rough and stiff. And I do not know what can be done to correct that. I would suggest that you negotiate a chance to test fire it at a range. I have a buddy that bought 2 - H&R's for his two young sons last fall. Both in 308 Win. Both shot just "OK" ... about 2.5-3 MOA with Rem. Express 165 Gr. Core Lokt. But the kids both killed deer with them last season. At $150, and if it shoots decent groups, I'd say jump it is a decent buy.

I had 2 cal. from H@R handi one in 243 cal. the other in 7MM-08
I think I spent more money on ammo that the guns themselves
I would say the best group were around 2" at the 100 very finicky cal.
I have 2 others
38-55
30-06
both tack drive bullets so it is the luck of the draw with them rifle some are shooters other are not.

For $150 I'd buy it in a heart beat. If it doesn't group well, put it for sale for $175 and then take $150 for it.

These seem to be hit and miss as others have mentioned. Buy it. If it doesn't work out you'll make your money back easy in a resell. Some ppl don't mind 2'' groups at 100.

I have 2... one in .243 and one in .223. Both heavy barrel versions. They both shoot very well. The .243 shoots 55g Nosler Ballistic Tips into 1.5" groups @ 100...while it shoots 90g Nosler's into .75" holes @ 100...but it took alot of test loads to get it to shoot that well...

My son's first rifle was a .243 H&R youth synthetic. Great shooting rifle and it was very effective on deer. I enjoyed the caliber so much, I went out and bought a .243 Rem 700 for myself. My .300 WSM has been sitting in the gun safe the past three deer seasons.

I'd get the .243 H&R
