Default Ruger M77 Hawkeye VS Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe

I am in the market for a new 243 varmit rifle. I was wanting to know what others have to say about the two guns listed above. Ruger would be stainless with nutmeg stock, Weatherby would be stainless with walnut stock. Thanks for looking.

They are both great guns, you wouldnt go wrong with either. My self, personally I would go with the Ruger, just cause it is made in the U.S.A., the Weatherby is made by Howa, in Japan.

OUt of the two I would personally go with the Ruger, I'm a Ruger fan though. I don't think either would prove a bad choice. Both should be good shooters. Hold both, see what shoulders best, and make your choice based on that!

I'm also partial to Ruger over Weatherby. So my vote is for Ruger.

It's not grounded in any belief that either gun will not get the job done well.

I don't like wood except for shotguns that go the range or highend wingshooting over dogs.

Rugers are built like tanks, so I hope this isn't going to be a walking stick.

I always opt for spending more on the glass than I do on the gun (especially on smaller calibers that need to be more accurate).

I always get synthetic with detachable box magazines (buy back-up with gun) & second, stainless.

..............but that's what I prefer !

Also agree - Both great guns !!!

1 advantage the Ruger will have is it's a laminated stock. That way you'll never have to worry about it warping under heavy use under severe conditions.

Well I guess Ill be the odd man out here and say that I personally dont care for rugers. Ive owned 2, a 3006 SS/lam M77 and a 308 frontier M77(impulse buy)

What I didnt like was 1) the front action screw was under the magwell cover, and angled so that it was a beech to remove the action from the stock, and the button to release the trapdoor is a bear too 2) the trigger sucked and was non adjustable, 3) I hated those heavy/blocky intergral scope rings.

Personally I think there is a better choice than ruger with almost every type of weapon they make,(except the 10/22) for close to the same $$$ JMHO
