The Savage or the Nosler
Hi folks, New to the forum and looking for some rifle Info. I am looking at the Savage Model 111 Long Range Hunter or the Nosler 48 Trophy grade rifle. Looking for any one who might have some info on the pros and cons of each rifle. It will be in 300 Win Mag. Thanks for all the help. Sean

Two totally different rifles with two way different prices! How much do you want to spend?
|
Hi Jeepkid, I can get the Savage for 800 and the Nosler for 1350 to 1400. I would like to stay under 1500. I have also been looking at the Hart Custom Factory Rifle but then im geting into 2400. I would like a rifle I could play around with at 600 yds. I got some room on the Farm to shoot.

I like Savage fine, but..................Nosler is just a whole lot more gun (quality).

That's a good deal on the Nosler, so I'd go with it! But, I've been eyeing that new Savage...so maybe you should buy it and let me know how you like it!!

If I was going to spend in the $1500 range I would look at the Cooper rifles.
|
The only thing about the Nosler is the lack of presence in the aftermarket whereas something like the Savage 110 or Remington 700, two rifles which many people consider to be lame or "boring", offer a lot of opportunities for customization. Also, for $1500 you could just about build your own long range rig, so to me the Nosler is neither fish nor foul. I know you didn't mention it, but you could also look at the Remington 700P in .300 WM, which is purpose built for long range sniping/shooting, it is around the price of the Savage.

I have and always have had the Rem 700 BDL in 300 Mag. You are right about the custom work all the custom shops in my area start with the Rem action. I was also looking at the Rem Model 700 XCR Tactical Long Range rifle. I have yet to find anyone who has that model in my area.

If your only consideration is accuracy I would bet on the Savage for accuracy. You could also spend the savings to buy much better glass also.
If you consider fit finish and looks first, and you like the look and fit and finish of the Nosler then go for it. If you have not looked at the Kimber 8400 you may want to consider it. My buddy has 4 Kimbers now and they all good shooters and look great also. http://www.kimberamerica.com/products/rifles/8400/ |

Remington Sendero, i have loved everyone i have bought. Only had one factory load that didn't shoot Sub MOA. I reload though and get closer to 1/2 MOA on all 3
|
I'd go with the Savage and then spend the money on a good scope. That Savage will do great; they've ben producing great accuracy in that action for years, and that was long before the accutrigger appeared.

i myself would buy the savage, its afordable and shoots great out of the box.the nosler would be nice but why when others shoot great for less.your money

Between those 2, there's no comparison. The Nosler is like a Rolls Royce compared to the Savage. Do you want something to be proud of and will hand down or do you simply want a tool? I agree that Cooper rifles is in the same category as the Nosler-or even better.

Jdhogg I'm not a snob, I built custom guns for a living for about 30 years and can appreciate a finely built rifle. The Nosler is bordering on custom. Please learn something of what you're talking about before you spout your mouth off in regards to me being a gun snob or otherwise.

well if its a status thing then go for it,its your money,we see alotta fancy weapons here in oregon but i dont see where they are any better, its the shooter that makes a weapon shoot and chances are a savage is a hell of a lot more accurate than you are.not trying to be nasty but its all up to you and your wallet.stalking bear im thinking you are a gun snob.

it was a joke.dont get yer d%^$ in the ringer |
I'm a remington guy but i do like the Savage LRH, I wouldn't mind having one myself, but you are comparing to different animals. On one hand you buy the savage and high quality optics or buy the Nosler and have a gun that in more cases than not is better and be worth ALOT more down the road. It really adds up to how much do you want to spend.
