7mm-08 accuracy

put a tight jag and cloth and push a cleaning rod through the barrell, put it 1/4 way in and mark the rod, push it in till you get one revolution and stop, mark the rod again, then pull it out and measure your two marks, 11 inches would be a 1 in 11 twist.

The 7mm-08 is a great choice for deer hunting. Plenty of power for deer and mild recoil. I have always liked the caliber and bought a Remington 700 CDL in 7mm-08 when my kids started hunting. They started shooting it at ages 12 & 14 and never had a problem with it. Since then they, and I, have both killed plenty of deer with this gun.
I reload for this cartridge and primarily load Hornady 139gr SST's and Sierra Prohunter and Gameking bullets in 140gr & 150gr. Plenty of accuracy with both, however, the Sierra bullets do shoot consistantly smaller groups. My best 3 shot group thus far was 3/8" at 100yds. Average 3-5 shot groups are around 5/8" to 1".
Plus with the mild recoil I can shoot a lot of rounds at the range in the various shooting positions without getting beat up by it.

The 7mm-08 is a great round. It has alot to be said about it in good ways from a full spectrum sources. It is PLENTY good for whitetails. As far as killing your taget at 500 yards, that has more to do with you than the rifle itself. It will leave plenty of energy at 500 yds. to kill a deer provided you can get the bullet there. There is quite a significant drop with almost ALL rifle configurations at 500 yards. Even some the best of performers will drop more than a foot at 500 yards. With that being said, if you are familiar and comfortable with those distances, the 7mm-08 is plenty of gun out to 500 yards. As far as accuracy goes. You asked how accurate the 7mm-08 is, it is MORE accurate than the shooter. Accuracy has more to do with the person pulling the trigger than it does the caliber of bullet. And you said you already killed at a distance of 415or 416 yards, you are shooting far better than alot of people can at those distances. Alot of guys CLAIM they can shoot at those distances, and some can ( dont get me wrong) some are very proficient at 400 yards or more. But there are alot of guys that shoot 1" groups at 100 yards at the local rifle range and feel they can make a 500 yard shot. With practice they probally can, but 100 yards with clover leaf groupings turns into a whole other world at 500 yards.

Savage 7mm-08
My Savage 7mm08 The Black Mamba is what I call her. Has acc trigger with floating barrel, I reloaded for her and it was so easy my first set of reloads I shot a .533 group 3 shot group at 100 yards ,went back home an reloaded some more and found a sweet spot load .007 off the riflen 38.9 of varget powder this is some awesome powder I shot a .388 group at 100 yards 3 shots with The Black Mamba. I also use varget powder in my 22-250 best group so far is .278.When I got that .388 I was more than satisfied I had about 8 more test loads to shoot but different seating depth and gr. of powder I found out what the black mamba likes. Finding the right seating depth is key and start low on your powder ...in the past starting on the high side with powder it made my groups open up. I measure some factory loads and they are seating .024 or more off riflen they do this so they can be shot in any gun, if your looking for more accuracy find out what your gun like by trying different seat depth. I start at .005 then .010 up to .020 off riflen with medium powder once I find a tight group with one of those seating depth then I play around with powder charge. I also reloaded for my cousin Marlin 7mm-08 his like .015 off riflen and we got a .547 group with varget powder. These gun shoot awesome group to be deer rifles. I shot a bird over 270 yard with the black mamba out of a tree just to see if I could hit it put the cross hairs right over its back and down it came. If you need help with test loads for your 7mm-08 hit me back or leave a number and I can get more in depth about the reloading
