remington 700 classic
 

was wondering if i can get soem info on the remington classics? i have found a rem 700 classic chambered in 35whelen. ( i have put off the 223rem for now ). it is in 90% cond. have not been able to look at it till i inspect it this friday. i take it is a older rem 700 since 35 whelen has not been chambered in the classic for some time? is the craftsman ship beter than the newer remingtons ? i don' t want a newer remington .

Quilly.....there is no doubt that the older remingtons are of better quality than the newer ones. I have several of the older models that i love but i recently bought a new one from a friend at a deal and am in the process of selling it because i just don' t like the gun. I' m a big remington fan but i think personally that the quality has really gone down. I' m somewhat in the same situtation as you. I have found a Remington Classic chambered in 25.06 that a guy has had in his safe since they were produced in 1990 and it has never been fired. I spoke with him by phone yesterday and he said he would sell it to me:D The classic is a fine looking rifle, it looks a lot like the mountain rifle with the exception of the small 22" barrel on the mountain. I think it is by far remingtons best looking rifle. I think if it' s in good shape you can' t go wrong with any of the older model remingtons. I say go for it!!

Quilly , that gun was built in 1987-1988 if I am not greatly mistaken. A very good friend of mine has one and has had no problems with it. I have not heard any problems with that chambering in that rifle. I would just thoughly check it out for abuse by its former owner.

Quilly, I have a 700 classic in 350 rem magnum. I beleive it was made in 1985. The craftman ship is great and it a real shooter.Hornady 200gr round nose and nosler 225 gr partitions will both group 1 moa at 100yds.

I have a remington classic in .300 weatherby.Spent shells hang up in chamber after they are fired I think remington may not have chambered gun right.Does any on else have this problem.I shoot factory loads and the only ones that don' t get stuck as bad are federal premium safari They have a nickel case.[:' (]

dvdegeorge have you tried cleaning your chamber real good?

try useing a chamber cleaning brush. i have a flexible one i use .

Have tried cleaning with a boar brush and copper solvent,but still have same problem.I thought I head from someone else they had a similar problem with this same gun.Thought someone out there might have some insight

dvdegeorge, sounds like you might have a rough chamber.Take it to a competent gunsmith or send it back to Remington.You shouldn' t be having these problems.

dvdegeorge it sounds like you have a scratch or a rough spot in your chamber . Has anyone worked on the gun ,or had to extract a broken case at some time . I have seen guns that were damaged by people that extracted thier broken case with a screwdriver . Thats what it sounds like .
Quilly the Remington classics are only made in one caliber a year and that year is the only year that caliber is made ,each year it is a different caliber .The 35 Whelen was made in 1988 .
