ANYBODY HAVE A BLR IN...

I was looking at getting a BLR in 450 marlin,it looks like a good 200 yd elk and deer rifle.I owned a marlin in the same caliber :) but hated that muzzle break and straight pistol grip:(.I know marlin is making a new modle 1895m with a 24 in barrel.Just your guys opions on wich is better.

Actually in the 450 marlin you can probably load it hotter if that was your desire since the action is a bit stronger. Feelwise its a tossup...I like them both...I have an 1895 with a 22" barrel that is a sweet shooter and yes it shoots much better than those guide guns and a lot quieter

Correction in the BLR you can load up the 450 marlin hotter than you could with a Marlin...

Thanks Old elkhunter any experiance with the BLR.
No,I would not reload for it.I would shoot factory hornady' s out of it.I don' t like the sights on the BLR but I like the clip loading and it' s sleek lines, like the marlins looks dut not the heft.I think I will top either one, with a weaver k4 or k2.5 scope sighted dead on for 150yards.The giude gun I had I neever shot anything with, shot at a few deer, packed on the horse when we ferried out elk in the back country. How dose it hold up on elk and moose? Thanks for the info.BBJ

Yep I had 2 blrs...one i bought the first year it came out in the early 70' s and the other in 1980 both were great shooters I mean the trigger was not the greatest but they shot real well, as well as most bolt rifles...very consistent accuracy Both of these babies were chambered in 308 . I think it points a lot better than the Marlin and in a woods rifle that is a good thing. Each gun has its good point and bad points...both great rifles IMHO.

Never used either the BlR' s or the 45/70 on Elk or Moose just on poor unfortunate deer and it knocks the crap out of them. Weaver K2.5 is one sweet scope 4" of eye relief and great glass.... As soon as I get around to it I have to mount one on my 45/70. Yep if your going to use it in the mountains get the BLR, a little handier and it ought to bowl over anything you run into ...

BBJ why limit your elkhunting to 200yds? The BLR is THE finest lever gun on the market, bar none! Have you seen the 300WSM in the BLR? THAT should make one AWESOME gun for just about anything you could want a rifle for.

Good luck,
RA

i owned a 450 marlin once. 1895M
she kicked so hard i could not get decent groups. ammo $25.00 a box unless you reload. with that light BLR she is gonna kick like a mule. i will never get another one.
but the BLR is a fine rifle.
