Default Marlin 1895SBL

I picked up one of these rifles in .45-70 last week because I really liked the looks of them and also because I'm a big fan of the chambering. I read and heard some bad reports on these rifles after Remington bought Marlin out. Things like poor wood to metal fit, sharp edges, sloppy machining and probably others that this old brain can't remember.
Well I guess Remington got Marlin's plant back in order. The wood to metal fit is excellent, finish (stainless) is perfect. All edges are smooth, including the corners of the lever loop and the thing shoots great. I'm not putting a scope on this rifle but keeping it for close range work using the ghost ring and ramp front sight.
I didn't think I'd like the ramp front and even sent an email to Marlin telling them it should be a white ivory bead instead. But I was wrong. It is great for fast acquisition.
Can't wait to hunt with it.

You'll love it. I've got a few 1895s (.45-70) & 336s (in .30-30 & .35 Rem.) & love them! They've been my go to rifles for the last few years ever since I got the lever bug!

Well guys I have a very early 1895 guide gun when they first came out with the ported barrel. That rifle has shot its share of bear already. I also have an 1895 Cowboy edition too.
And now this one. I also have a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem and an 1894 in 357 mag.
I also have a few other lever actions including a couple Win 94s in 30-30 and 32 special. Plus others in .22 lr and 44 mag. Can't have too many lever guns right? LOL

There was an issue for the first few years. They had to send me a replacement after they started the line back up, Atleat that is what they told me. To sine then were good.

Don't tell the Marlin folks, who seem to forget about all the fixes for pre remlins.

For me, that's a dream gun for poking about thick brush in the Cherokee National Forest. Congratulations on a splendid purchase!

I worried about the same thing. I got one because my older marlin made microgroove didn't shoot cast well.

But the new one shoots much better than the old, cast or jacketed. I did have a burr in my ammo tube, that jammed after 3 rounds. They sent me a new tube. That was out of round and about 1mm too long. They wanted me to send back the gun. I said screw it, and machined it down and straightened it out. Good news is it shoots well.
