ill stick with my low priced savage and stevens.a 700 just isnt a savage!

In 1986 I bought a remington sportsman 78 in 243 for $180. Ive killed many deer with it in all kind of weather and I never had the first minute of trouble with it, I would never sell it or the winchester (pre. 64) mod 70 30-06 I own. I also have a rem. 7400 30-06, it has its issues but its still an ok rifle...I wouldent bet my life on it in a gun battle but i do take it hunting in tight shooting situations, and never had problems killing deer with it.

Just my 2 cents worth, you most certainly can buy a high quality rifle for less than $350. About 15 years ago I bought a 1972 model 700 30.06 for $275, and I haven't looked back since. Will cloverleaf handloaded ballistic tips at 100 yards, almost that good with 150 grain factory bronze points. About 3 years ago I bought a 1984 Sportsman 78 30.06 from a neighbor for $35 with a 3-9x50 simmons scope on it, and a bell and carlson stock. He had it for years, but preferred his shotgun for his type of hunting. And just about 6 months ago I bought a 1972 Marlin 336 30-30, that's had about 5 rounds through it, for $100. And my $100 870 shoots as good as any other I've seen.....You don't always have to buy the "new" gun to get a great gun.......

I wish remy would sell just the 700 action alone. Perfect platform for a custom build. That said, I would like a custom build off a sako action too.

Thank God a 700 just isn't a Savage.

you can buy a rem 700 action from brownells..

if you really want to spend some coin.. you can buy a "custom" 700 action from surgeon or blackheart...

Maybe you just got a bad one.. Cause my 770's freaking awesome in every meaning of the word.

2) always do your homework

my wife bought a 770 a couple years ago and i did some work on it like free floating the barrel and doing some trigger work and alittle fine tuneing...its in 30-06 and ill put it up against any gun at 3 times the cost. yes they were made cheaply as possible for those of us that cant afford to buy fancy guns...but i think you just plain got a lemon and lemons come in many forms...even ones that cost hunderds more dollars..i bought a model 70 win one time and it was junk...we got my dad a pump shotgun once and the barrel fell off when he shot it ,,,they fixed it and he had many good hunts with it...ill give ya 50 bucks for your junk rem weld the bolt on it toss a tasco scope on it and ill sell it for 500 bucks easy,,,like one man said take it to a gun smith
