The "husky" I saw was sporterized, not the plain Military stock. It was chambered in .280 Rem (don't know this Cal.) and was very handsome looking...I think it was the mauser 98 action. Anyways the shop is really impressed with it also as they wanted over $600 for it. Is it fair to say the .280 would shoot like my .270?

The 280 is essentially a 3006 necked down to 7mm. If you already have a 270 then I wouldn't worry about it unless you want something different.

$600 is very reasonable for any Husqvarna, some of the models bring prices well over $1000.00. Like I said, they are comperable to Sako and other quality european fire arms. The 280 Remington, also known as the 7mm Express will be a vertual twin to the 270 Win, but will have the advantage of better bullet selection, the 280 will shoot a 175 grain bullet where the 270 is limited to 150 grains, nosler does offer a 160 grain semi spitzer for reloading. So in a nut shell the 280 is more versitle than the 270, and offers the same flat shooting. If you have a reloading manual you could look up the different loads for both calibers and see what each offers.

I have one in 30-06 and love it. It a great hunting rifle. It is very light weight and accurate. I have taken over 50 deer with it. If there is a downside it is that because it is light weight, the barrel heats up rapidly and must be allowed to cool before shooting again. Of course, when you are hunting you should not need more than a shot or two. If I were to see another at a good price I would not hesitate to buy it.
