New fast bolt action rifle - who knows this?
Holiday googling with my son I found the video of a new bolt action system. Due to the fact that it uses a three+1 magazine it may be European origin (mount resembles Mauser, camouflaged logo may be Mauser or Merkel). Or is it an American product? Does anybody know something about? Thanks for help!

Fast
Neat video. That is a straight pull bolt. Nothing new there as SPBs were in use in the late 19th Century. The Swiss K31 is a commonly available milsurp rifle that uses a SPB. Steyr-Mannlicher also made rifles with SPBs.
The marvelous Anschutz Biathlon target rifle uses a Fortner SPB and is about as fast as a semi. |
My Remington Model 700 has a 3+1 magazine, as do most other magnum bolt actions. Magazine capacity has nothing to do with country of origin. What suggests European manufacture is the straight-pull bolt action. They're not very popular in the U.S. and no U.S. manufacturers make a straight pull centerfire. The only straight pull bolt action that is even remotely American (in name only) is the Browning T-bolt which is a rimfire rifle. Straight pulls are much more popular in Europe, with the Blaser R-93 being the most common sporting rifle so configured, and the K-31 Swiss being a now obsolete military design.

It might be a Heym SR 30.

From Chuck Hawks
"The fastest form of bolt action rifle is the straight pull action. The Canadian Ross rifle of pre-WW I fame was the first of the breed with which I am familiar. Such rifles have never been popular because they usually sacrifice too many of the bolt action's virtues (camming action on extraction, controlled feed, simplicity of design) for a fairly minor increase in speed of operation. The straight pull bolt action is still slower than a lever, pump, or autoloading rifle." |

only straight bolt i knew of was the schmidt-rubin k31
actually shot a surplus...that sucker was a shooter...never shot it serious off the bench...but it shot very well... my thoughts...if you want a fast bolt, go with a pump or lever...i can pump my pump and not have a bolt coming back in my face...or moving my trigger hand at all... |
I believe thats a blazer in the video

It's not all that new. Swiss been making them for years. All that speed and target accuracy.
