Glock 27 vs. S&W M&P compact .40
 

I am debating which one to get out of these 2 guns. This will be my first hand gun. My dad has a glock 27 and I like it a lot. I have also heard excellent reviews for the s&w style of this gun. What do you guys think? Any reviews? Thanks

I own, have carried on and off-duty and have shot numerous Glock pistols in 9mm, .40 and .45 calibers (models 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 27 and 30). They are accurate, easy to shoot and safe. They have a safe action (kind of a hybrid between single and double action) where the first through the last round fired all have the same 5 pound trigger pull. It's hard to go wrong with a Glock.

The model you're considering (27) is normally viewed as a concealed carry or backup gun and is called a sub-compact. Many people who use that model get a magazine extender (adds 1 round) which also gives them a place for their little finger when gripping the gun.

You may want to check out how a Glock 23 feels in your hand as it's still considered a compact but gives a little more room for your grip. It's still quite concealable under a shirt or in a fannypack if needed.

I've shot a couple S&W autos (59 & 4006) and they are accurate. I've never shot the M&P model so couldn't tell you about that particular model. I see their specs state they have a double action only trigger set at 6.5 pounds for trigger pull.

If you are able to, you may want to check out the S&W trigger pull in a gun store just to see if it's something you're going to be comfortable with or not.

Personally, I prefer Glock, SIG and 1911 style pistols in that order. Given your current question, I would recommend the Glock but also suggest you handle both in a store so you have a better idea of what feels best to you. Good luck.

I carry a Glock 27 as a backup/off duty gun everyday. If it were me I'd pick a Glock but the M&P is a darn good pistol. As CalHunter stated, a G23 maybe a little better choice. It will be more comfortable for extended range sessions but still yet be easy to conceal should you decide to do so.

Go grab both and see which feels good in the hand. I carry a M&P 40 on duty and love it. I was issued a Glock 23 which I had no problems with. I liked the way the M&P felt in my hand. It also is pretty similar to a glock in function. If you can go to a shop that has some you can rent and shoot.


Either way you go you're getting a good handgun.

Thanks for the opinions guys! I forgot to mention that I will be getting the concealed permit, so I am going to be concealing it.

i have a 27 in 40 cal, and when i am jus messin round shootin i put the clip from my glock 22 40 cal in it and have 15 shots vs the 9 it comes standard with...you can sprinkle sand and water in a glock and it wont jam..even after 60 shots!!!!.i know this mannnnnn

Another vote for the Glock. I have a G19 and a G22. And a XD45 And I have shot the M&P in the 40. All great guns but I like the Glock the best.

Has anyone here bought a new glock rtf? I am close to ordering the G19 with the RTF handle but I am told the next gen glocks will be debut early next year so I dont know what to do..

Basically itll come down to what feels best for you. The options mentioned are all very good choices. To me I would not go with the M&P because I hate the feel of the trigger, not saying its bad but I personally like the feel of the Glocks or Xd's trigger much better.

wait for the new ones to come out..you can still buy the old model, prolly cheaper

I've held a Glock RTF pistol in my hands and the grip felt pretty good. I haven't shot one so can't say how it affects your skin or not. You might want to shoot one a little bit to decide if that's the best grip texture for you or not. Or wait till the next generation Glocks come in and have more choices. :s2:

I have S&W M&P 40 sub compact and it's a good choice for ccw, But the glocks are a good choice as well, as is a sub compact Springfield XD .40 Might be best to check them all out in your hand to see what feels best to you, you really couldn't go wrong with any of the guns that have be mentioned.

Another vote for Glock, I've had a G-27 I guess for about the last 13 years or so. It hasn't been shot awhole allot but has never misfired,fed everything I gave it, accurate enough for my CCW gun.I have the Trijicon night sights on it.It was my primary carry gun for years. Recently I switched over to carrying a Ruger LCR only because of the comfort.

Let me start and say I haven't followed the modern S&W semi autos in years.I'm sure there's been allot of improvement over the years. I'm talking back in the mid to late 70's when the M39's and the M59's were available.The left allot to be desired.S&W has brought out allot of different models since the time I'm talking about.I'm sure by now they have it right and make a good semi auto.I was soured by them and it has left a bad taste in my mouth.
If it were me I'd go with a Glock that's been proven. Look at all the Police agency's that issue Glock's. I'm not bashing S&W. They make a fine revolver. As for their semi auto's I would look elsewhere.But that's just me.

go to the gun shop and look them all over yourself but i would go with the glock or the xd
