Newbie here

Hey guys im new to this forum thin so bear with me. I just recently puchase a Ruger hawkeye in a 264 win mag. I'm planning on putting a 4.5x14x40 nikon buckmaster on it and trying some nosler 120 ballistic tips. I was just wondering if anybody out there had the same set up or something similar. If so what kind of results is anybody getting. thanks!

what i shoot isnt anywhere close to what your shooting but dang it sounds like you will have a heck of a setup. i have tried ballistic tips and didnt really like them. if your re loading try out the berger vld, they open up faster, have higher ballistic coefficients and tend to be a little more accurate. the nosler accubond is great to. same goes for the hornady sst

Thanks for the info! I shoot factory hornaday ammo in all my rifles 6mm 270win 300win except for my 280 rem. I shoot corelorkts. I just order some factory nosler ammo just to try in my 264 and to have the brass in case i decide to reload or dnt like the way they perform. ( I have a couple friends who reload).

Congrats on the new gun, just one question though, why'd you go for the 264 win mag when the 270 meets and exceeds the 264's performance.

Nothing wrong with that. I like the oddballs myself, 6.5x55, 257 Roberts, 307 Winchester, 35 Whelen. With the velocities that you'll get from the 264 I'd say don't discount the standard cup and core bullets like the Hornady interlok, or SST. I haven't shot any of the Nosler 6.5's but have shot loads of Hornady and Sierra. What kind of hunting ranges are you looking at. I'd imagine a 140 would be just about perfect for anything but the big bears. The Interbonds and Accubonds or Partitions would provide better weight retention, from what I've heard from most say the interbond retains more weight but is more finicky on loading. The accubond is as accurate as a ballistic tip and give the same type of weight retention and penetration as the partition. Ultimately it's the gun that will make the decision.

Any other 264 win mag shooters out there?
