Marlin
Just wondering if anyone has any info on the Marlin XS7 line of rifles. Am thinking about one in 308win!
Thank for any help!!! Bill |
Ih ave an XL7 30.06 and its a fantastic rifle. i would buy another without question. I just wish they made the XS with a wood stock. I have too many syn stock rifles.

I have a marlin 35. Man I kills my first small buck and second older dove. I love the gun.
|
I have never owned one, but have heard nothing but good about them.

Maybe the best entry level bolt action rifle in the market right now.
TC Venture if you want to spend a bit more. Both: Just my opinion, of course ! |
I dont own one, but everything I have read about them has been great. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about them either. I would be pretty confident in saying they are a really good gun, I was thinking of buying one my self, I just dont know what caliber to get, I have about everything that they come in.

My brother and a friend of ours both have one chambered in 30-06 and they will shoot an inch to less than an inch consistently at 100 yds. But be warned they kick considerably more than a normal wood stocked 30-06 because of the lack of weight from the synthetic stock. But if recoil is no problem then dont worry about it. But as a first gun it could make a bad impression on recoil of other firearms. But if it was me i would buy it and put a good nikon scope on it.

I have shot just one of these. In 25.06 Rem. It was baught by a buddy for his son's first "deer rifle". Here's my $02 based upon only this one expereince. On teh + side are the (1) price, (2) accuracy, and (3) adjustable trigger. We adjusted the trigger to 3.5#. It was not a "glass break" crisp, but not bad at all ! The fit & finsih are just OK. THe polymer stock was not as stiff as I suspected it would be, but seemed OK. He put an adjustable 40 mm objective, 1" tube, Elite 4200 on the rifle. I have to say that the bolt angle needs to be re-thunk! It barely cleared! We shot 6 different factory ammo's. I forget the details of these, except the Frederal Premium shot groups far tighter than I am a shooter ! And again I forget the details of the ammo. I'd buy it.

I own one in a 30-06 and I love it. I put nikon scope on and good to go. Its just as accurate as my remington 700 if not more.
|
I've heard good things about them as well, but never laid my hands on one.

boyds makes some nice stocks for them.
|
We have an XL7 in 30'06. By its serial number, its an early run, and has a real nice wood stock. It has a really nice weight to it and feel, but havent had alot of luck with accuracy. I blame the cheapo simmons scope I had laying around, that I stuck on it. I have a feeling that once I put a good scope on it, it'll shoot nice. For an inexpensive gun, you cant beat them. You could only do worse.

i have a marlin xl7 .270. i have shot my dads ruger m77 hawkeye to compare. accuracy wise exactly the same. We could both hit quarters 100 yards away, i even hit a pepsi can at 300 yd. @streetglideok i use remington corelokts in 150 gr. and my gun loves them! I am not bragging about my accuracy im telling you guys what this gun is capable of for such a low price. I love the trigger on it too. if you outfit it with a decent scope and see what ammo shoots best im sure you'll love it! IMO the best bargain for a rifle today.
