I'm a marlin levergun fan. I have a 336 in .30-30, two 1894s in .44mag, one stainless and one blued, and two 1895's in .45-70, the 1985 Cowboy with the long octagonal barrel, and the 1895 Stainless Guide Gun...
The .30-30 sees the least use, but I keep the others working pretty hard! The 1895 Cowboy even sees action as a coyote rifle on occasion. I say you can't go wrong with any of the marlin line up. The only thing I wish was different was I wish the pistol grip stocks weren't becoming so common, but I understand, it's not Marlin's idea, it's consumers. I guess I'm just a traditionalist!

I got one of the older Guide Guns in 45-70. Mine has the ported barrel. I love this little rifle with the big hole. It is used as my black bear rifle and it really 'thumps' them. I don't see why it wouldn't be just as effective on boar.
If I were to get another Marlin, it would probably be a good used 336 in 35 Rem., or an 1894 in .357 or .44 mag.

I bought one last week, I have been wanting one for a while, havent shot it yet, but am confident it is a shooter. I really wanted the marlin 338, but dont want to be strapped to buying rareified ammo. The 7mm WSM taught me that. Love that round/rifle, ammo isnt plentiful, I digress.
Anyway, you'll love it, use a recoil pad. EJ

I have a Marlin 1895 in 45/70 with 22" bbl.....not the Guide Gun, but the rifle. That gun shoots AMAZINGLY well....Had the trigger pull taken down to a crisp 3 lbs. and that made a huge difference. Very nice gun...very satisfied.

I bought the same one, the 22 inch blued one as you. Whats you favorite loads? I am going to hunt primarily deer and elk. This is my first entry into non-synthetic less than 3000 fps rifle. I dont know why I like it, but I just do. Maybe it is the checkered walnut. EJ

I've been shooting the Hornady 350 gr. FP in mine, on top of 46.5 gr. H4198, lit with Rem. 9 1/2 primers. It shoots very well with that load. I tried up to 48 gr. of that powder, but it started to open up. The 46.5 gr. load shoots the best in my gun. I have never chronographed it, and I really need to do that. Maybe early this coming spring when the temps are still down, but the darned snow is gone.......
