How does your 7600 shoot?
what caliber and how accurate would you say your remington 7600 is? Also in your opinion what is the most accurate caliber you can get in the 7600.
Thanks for all your input. |
all the ones i have and have had shoot like a dream. there will be horror stories about them all from some ppl and some ppl like me have had nothin but good luck. as far as accuracy all the chamberings of the 7600 are pretty equally accurate. maybe you confusing accuracy w/ trajectory????
|
no just figured maybe a .308 would group a little better than the 30-06
|
doubt it. your question is pretty broad. lots of veriables that come into play. any of the chamberings will shoot better then your ability any way you slice it. pick one and get out there and kill somethin
|
my question was is a .308 more accurate than a 30-06 so maybe your the one thats broad

Love my 7600 in 270 and its capabilities. Bought it after season last year so this year it will see some hunting time. Trigger modified to 3.2# with 1.5" taken off the stock with a Sims pad added on the end.

So far I have owned .308, 3006 and .270win in a 760 or 7600. All were pretty much the same with factory ammo honest 1.5-2" groups. My 270 win with handloads will do 1" with a couple of pet loads. Neither the 308 or 3006 ever saw handloads.
A friend picked up a light used one in a 35 whelan, his choice of factory load locally produced 2.5" groups on average. Worked up a partition load for him that betters this by more then 1". He's ave. between 1.25 and 1.5" with that load and is tickled. The moose he shoot last week not as thrilled!! |
Had a 760 in 30-06.Shot anything I fed it.Always grouped around an inch to 1-1/2.Knocked everything I ever shot ass end over tea kettle .Didn't miss much in those days.Still had pretty good eyes.....LOL

actually nho it wasnt. your question was "whats the most accurate caliber you can get in the 7600?" you could hvae a half dozen 30-06's a half dozen 308's a half dozen 270's and have ihalf of them be much better shooters from the factory then the other half regaurdless of caliber. thats the point i was trying to make you understand. |
My 30 06 is shootin 3 inch groups right now with Remington Cor lokt 150's. Im hopin its just the bullet my gun dont like.....want to try the winchesters power points but its so dam hard to find ammo now adays
|
step her up to the 165's. thats the bullet most 06's really like. also, soime of that may be in the trigger. untill you do a little work they tenhd to have a little more creep and a fairly stiff TP. not all, but some. i assume you have a scope on it by the souds, check your bases and rings. also be sure of your rest, by that i mean dont rest your barrel on a sand bag or somethin of the sort. get up on the forearm in good shape and make sure its in the same spot every time if its tight grpoups from a bench that your after
|
I had a 760 in 30.06 and it shot pretty well with most anything I loaded in it. It seemed to like the heavier bullets a bit better though, but my shoulder sure didn't.

Bob - Consider trying Hornady 165 or 180 SST,Nosler Accubonds or Sierra Game Kings. Order online with Mid South as all 3 bullets mentioned are in stock. I agree with above statement that a 30-06 is more apt to shoot these bullets more accurate than the 150's.
I reload for my 06-M77 and it does not like 150's but prefers 165/180 and I would expect better results from your 7600. I happen to also reload for my 7600-270 and discovered that my grouping are the same as factory Rem CL. I need to seat .050-.060 off the lands for best results. I would recomend a trigger job for your rifle. My trigger was 7.75# from the factory. Allow me to illustrate the results. Before trigger job-7.75# (Rem CL-130gr- 100 yards) ![]() After trigger job-3.2#. Fired a 3 shot group then made a scope adjustment for the second 3 shot group. (Rem CL-130gr-100 yards) ![]() |
The main problem with your question is that every rifle prefers a particular type of round. Even rifles of the same make and caliber can prefer different food. Once you get the rifle, you have to be willing to spend money and time at the range to figure out what your rifle prefers.
As for the 7600 being reliable or a good shooter. I've heard all the stories about them being inaccurate or unreliable, but I've never experienced that, nor have I personally known someone who had those experiences. I've only read stories on the net. The fact that out of half a dozen of these rifles that either I or a friend has used, none of them had any problems, leads me to suspect the stories of being more than just a problem with the rifle. |
I have a 270 and my father has a 760 in 30-06 that is over 40 years old. When we travel for deer hunting next month, those are the two guns we are taking with us. In our opinions, they are excellent rifles.
