Savage Model116FCSS .338

I just sold my Browning A-bolt in .338 due to poor accuracy. I am seriously looking at the Savage Weather Warrior Model 116FCSS in .338. Does anyone have any feed back on this rifle? I have purchased Savage rifles for my kids and every one shoots very very well. One in 30/06, and for the younger twins, a Junior 7mm/08 which is a tack driver. I look forward to any and all replys.

I have two Savage rifles. My .270 is a 1 MOA gun...very good by most standards...

My 7mm RM is a 1/2 MOA gun...exceptional by most standards...

Savage rifles have a history for accuracy and are an exceptional value IMO. Get a good scope though...my 7mm trashed the scope that came with it...

I've got the same Rifle in 7 mm. mag without the acc-trigger, Mine has the muzzle brake as well. I replaced the stock with a Boyd's laminate and a Rifle Basix SAV-2 trigger set at 2 lbs. A great shooter. I picked up a Mod. 111 sav. in .270 last year and it's groups very well. You can't go wrong with Savage for the money. Good Luck

Glad you asked the question 338 hunter, and thanks for the replies guys. I was looking at a Savage 16FCSS yesterday in 7mm-08 for a dedicated deer rifle. Gander here has one on clearance for $399. I am going to get a late birthday present to myself today as soon as they open.

I have a Savage 30.06 and a .243 and both are great rifles. I personally enjoy the .243 more for reaching out at woodchucks, 275 yrds is the furthest so far. Savage makes a good priced and shooting gun.

Savage 116 left-hand in Realtree AP

I love my Savage 116. I purchased it new a few months ago. It has the new Accustock which is extremely rigid. It's the best factory synthetic stock around--hands down. I didn't like the seams that result from the injection molding process, so I sanded them down and sent my stock in to Dynamic Finishes who applied a the Realtree AP camo finish. It looks much nicer now (IMO). Yes, I think walnut looks the best, but I have nice guns. I wanted something different, something weather resistant, and something I'm only going to hunt with once or twice a year (although I'll be taking it to the range often). I live in a state that you can't hunt deer with rifles, so this is for when I go home to Upstate New York. Anyway, the trigger is excellent; the gun is very accurate; it has a jeweled bolt now; and the P.A.D. is quite effective. I have ordered a new recoil pad though. The other one is good, however, my screwdriver was a little too fat and I ended up twisting the rubber and making a mess of the thing. You have to use a very, very thin Phillips screw driver to take the pad off. I think the Sims Limbsaver I ordered looks a bit more high-end, but I'm not sure it's going to fit (after looking at the printable footprint). We'll see.

That is too bad I have an abolt in a 338wm and I am pleasantly suprised at the accuracy it has given me. My goal was MOM/E (minutes of moose/Elk) but my handloads are sub MOA.

I have an FCSS16 in .308. I love it. And after looking at Bmumford's rifle, mine might sport some realtree camo. I highly recommend the Savage Weather Warrior Series to everyone I talk to. I've been a Remington my whole gun life, shot nothing but, but I fell in love with this Savage and I'm glad I picked this one up. Accuracy has been right around 1MOA at 100 yards with cheap Winchester ammo, and should improve drastically with my handloads.
