460.......... i absolutely am in love with mine. My best friend has a 500, shot it several times too. This is big bore hangunning for the hard core, as its not for everyone. I still strongly prefer the 460 for the ammunition versatility, and the trajectory. I will absolutely MAUL a Whitetail.

500 AND 460 are fun to shoot. I like the 460 better also but only because of the versatility. They both recoil about the same and its notbmuch worse than a 44magm, (the ones with the comp arent anyways) theyre about like comparing a 30-06 to a 270, theres slight differences but the biggest difference is personal preference.

A friend of mine has a smith and wesson custom in the .500 and I hunted deer with it. It dropped the doe I shot like a tin can at a practice shot. That was at 35 yards though. I'd recommend that. If you're looking for something bigger I beleive I saw a nice looking revolver at gandermountain yesterday chambered in 45-70. Also the rugger contender series could be a good bet for you.
