RE: Spray painting a gun

I have used several types, the one I now use on metal parts is a Rustoleum Automotive primer in grey I buy at Walmart. Make sure to completely degrease the metal. cover the moving partsand then spray. I usually put 4 coats on. It dries a very nice matte, but a little light rubbing with 0000 steel wool makes it look alot like gun blue. It does not hold up too well if you hit it on metal surfaces or rub it a lot with something abrasive, but it is very easy to touch up and it looks good as new again. I used it on a stock I made with olive drab camo paint and it looks very good.

Krylon fusion works well on synthetic stocks.

I saw a matte enamel spray paint I want to try next. Best thing is most of the time a little paint remover will take it off and you can redo it, or just paint over it.

One of these days I will just get the duracoat kit, or the alumahyde II and do it right.
