X2 for a pump gun. I had a BPS 12ga and still regret the day I had to sell it. [:@] It is, IMHO, by far the best pump shotgun on the market today, and it won't destroy your family budget either. The 10ga version would be some serious bad medicine for turkeys, geese and anything else you shot it at. If you want a more multi-purpose shotgun, I'd stick with the 12ga though.

If you want a semi-auto 12ga and don't have your heart set on shooting anything bigger than 3" shells, then I'd strongly suggest the Stoeger 2000. I absolutely love mine. Shoots everything I feed it reliably and well, and is very well made for a very good price. You could have one in camo for the low to mid $500's.

I've seen Remington 11-87's in low to mid $500's in camo that shoot 3 1/2" shells. Maybe not a better gun I'm not sure but just saying you do have a couple options in that price range if you want to shoot more than 3" shells you have this option.

Another vote for Benelli Nova..great shotgun at good price..$419.00 at my local gun shop and thats with full camo

My turkey gun .... Benelli Nova 12 ga. , cammo finish. Even with a quality "turkey choke" ... and you are still under your budget.

It was pumping 180-200 pellets into a 10" circle at 40 yards on a dirty bore.
260-280 at 30 yards. [:-]

That's using the 3.5" Hevi shot 2.25oz #6 Hevi-shot.

Love it Matt. I love the simplicity of a pump for a turkey gun. I want to get a dedicated turkey gun. I will be looking at 870 as one of my choices when the time comes. That or a Nova or Supernova.

I love this gun. I love my Mossberg 835/Madd Choke/Bushnell scope combo but if I were to pick up another one, Matt's gun would be it.

I have a Remington semi-auto SP-10 Magnum in 10 gauge firing 2 1/4 oz. 3.5 inch magnums in #4 which definitely patterns better than a 12 gauge using 3.5 inch magnums. One reason I like the SP-10 better than the Browning because the 11 pound SP-10 is heavier weapon which provides a more stable shooting platform and less felt recoil. Unfortunately, the SP-10 is well beyond the $500 price range but it is the strongest most robust shotgun you will ever find and will last for generations. It is also great for waterfowl and can be used for upland game other than turkey if you do not mind carrying this massive gun in the field.
