anybody have the ruger .17hmr??

i went to the gunshow and handled every .17 that was in the building, i went in intent on buying the NEF single shot. that little sucker is so barrel heavy that if feels odd off-hand(bench shooting would be great). after i made my way through the show, it came down to 2. the cz, and the ruger. the cz' s clip fit loose, and the floor plate of the clip felt loose. it just seemed like there was too much slop in there. the ruger, on the other hand, was tight, solid and smooth. the only problem with them is $$$$;)
how are the triggers on the rugers? do they break smooth and crisp?
thanks

I don' t have one but looked at a few of them.Definately up to Ruger' s quality.I' ve looked at a 17 in Savage and Marlin. There is quite a difference in them. The Marlin I looked at was very disappointing. The fitting wasn' t up to Marlin' s quality.I was impressed with the Savage. The Ruger is allot more expensive. It comes down to how much you are willing to spend? My dealer told me a Ruger Rep came in back when the Ruger 17' s were just being released. He said that they were getting excellent accuracy and results at 200 yards. They were real happy with them. I would like to shoot a couple and see how they are before laying out that kind of money for a rimfire.Ammuntion for them at times can be rather hard to find. When you do find it it' s allot higher then the 22 mag. If I decide later on to buy one the Ruger will be the one that will come home with me.

The fit and finish of the Marlin stainless is very good on the two Ive shot. They both will shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100 and function has been flawless. I have the trigger on mine breaking at 2 lbs without much work. I have handled a couple of rugers, and for almost twice the money I cant see it. Depends on what you want I guess. Do you really want it and can you afford it. The Anschutz tested in the rifleman is a mighty good looking rifle. CCI is advertising ammo now too, so maybe in another year ammo wont be so hard to find. Ive been buying the Hornady from Midsouth for about $80 a brick. It stays on backorder, but you will get it.

the ruger .17HMR is an awesome rifle. It' s extremely accurate. I shot a .500 5 shot group at 75yds. and can shoot .800-.900 at 100yds pretty consistent. I' m really partial to ruger and haven' t had the chance to shoot the marlin. The ruger' s worth the money. You won' t be disappointed.

Well guys I have to apologize, I must have lied to you.I said if I buy a 17HMR it would be the Ruger.I still want to get one eventually.I went to the NRA Convention today in Orlando FL.After leaving the convention I went by BassPro.I asked what 17' s they had. They had one Ruger(blued w/walnut stock). A couple Remington' s(no way) and two Savage' s one blued and one S/S .The Ruger was over 450.00. The Stainless model 93R17 FVSS was 229.95.It felt good and excellent craftsmanship.I swallowed my pride and bought the Savage instead of the Ruger. This Savage has a 21" bull barrel and synthetic stock. It comes with Weaver style bases.MSRP is 261.00. For 229.95 I didn' t think I could go wrong. As we know the ammunition for these are not the easiest to find. BassPro had only one box left and I was surprised it was Remington ammunition. 10.00 a box.I' ll order more through Midsouth along with Weaver style rings.

RR, u will have an absolute blast shooting that little .17 hmr. I havent tried the Remington ammo yet but my local gun shop has the cci available at $10.50 a box, icant wait to try it. My marlin shoots great with the hornady, i doubt the cci can do much better. If u plan on mounting a good size scope on your gun u make look into this. http://www.bkltech.com/products/prod_253.html ive talked to several .17 hmr owners and all love this mount system. My only problem is deciding on wich scope to go with though i have it narrowed down to 3 choices.

Thanks Treedog, I' ll check that site out. This is the second Savage I ever owned.I did have a 24V once for a short time.I' ve heard nothing but good about Savage and figured to give it a whirl. If nothing else the price was right.

i think i am going to get the CZ varmint, with the heavier barrel. it seems pretty solid, except for the slop in the clip, which, if was a problem, could be fixed
