RE: scope basis for savage
I just bought a savage weather warrior in 30-06. The gun shop ordered the bases and installed them and the scope. They looked it up and their source stated use Weaver 46 and 61. After boresighting it, they said something was wrong with my scope or that the muzzlebrake was affecting the process. The scope is only a year old and not a cheap one.
My son and I went to the range because our season was still on and I wanted to use the gun. The gun shot way high and my son noticed the scope didn't appear to be level. We went home and I looked at a gun parts catalog and they said 46 and 61. Went on line to savage and they said a pair of 46's. The 61 has a flat bottom where the 46 has the rounded bottom. They both mount on a rounded portion on my receiver. Apparently at one time maybe older models required this mismatch. My gun sighted in great after replacing the 61. Dan |
