I got 1 in the shop the other day for a buddy and frankly,it suprized the hell out of me. Not only good ergonomics, but darn good trigger, and accurate well beyond what you would think for it's price.

It'd be nice if they'd chamber it for some short action cartridges. So far, I've only seen it offered in .270 and .30-06.

I have one in a .270 and it will put 3 in under an inch at 100 yds. The adjustable trigger is a nice extra. In my opinion there hard to beat for the money. I won't buy anymore Rem 700's for more than twice the money when I can get the Marlins for $300 and they will do anything the Remmy's will doin the woods.

They are coming out with a short action version for 2009. It will be called the XS-7, available in (if memory serves me correct) .243, 7mm-08 and .308 calibers. I read this on outdoorlife's web site.

Just found the article

Like already stated, the XL-7 isnt a bad little rifle for the price. Dont really care for the trigger, other than that my .270 Win shoots just over an inch with 5 shot groups. I applied some Duracoat over the stock and threw a Leupold 4.5x14 M1 Mark 4 on it in Warne bases and rings and called it good.

That's a awesome scope ya got on it. If you ever decide to throw it away, let me know and I'll see that it's "disposed" of:D.

What's the duracoat stuff you put on there? Is that basically just paint? I really like that look.

RE: xl-7

Duracoat is a 2 part coating that is appiled with an air brush or LPHV.It's fairly durable when appiled properly andit's availible in many colors, if you are interested try looking here http://www.lauerweaponry.com/

Here's the whole rifle, it was actually just a quick job.

Here's one that took a little more time.
