the rem 7600 is extremely accurate. the barrel is free floating. this is a better choice than the 7400.

My first high power rifle was a Rem 7400 in 270. I still have it and I have never had any problems with jamming. The rifle is very picky with ammo though and any change will send me to the range to check scope settings. Bigcountry I haven' t noticed that the forearm screw causing a shift in point of aim but I will watch for it now. My load for years is 46grs of IMR4604. 150gr Hornady bullet. RCBS small base dies and a light crimp in the cannalure. The cannalure was the reason for picking the Hornady bullet as I wanted to crimp. I recently tried some of the loads for my sons 270 and they shot fairly good in this gun and have me thinking of trying some differant loads in this gun.

Man, about a decade ago, I blaimed this POI change on everything from the mounts, to the scope. Finally, a friend told me about this screw issue. So being the nonbeliever I am, I had to test for myself. Sure enough, he was right. Give it a try. Tighten that screw very tight, shoot some groups. Then loosenabout 4 twists. You will be surprised. I just take it to the range and shoot 3 shots before the day of hunting. And don' t clean until after the season or I get my limit.

if you notice no one has problems wit the older remingtons. could that be a possible trend in how they make them now?

I had a Rem 742 and then 7400 (slightly updated version of the former). I' d say that for both, the most important thing I' ve found to keep it operating well is to keep the bolt and chamber clean, clean, clean and use very little of a high-quality lubrication. This is especially true in cold weather ( 10 degress of lower).

I think that their manufacturing tolerances and the bolt locking mechanism are 2 reasons why many people end up with 1 shot, manual ejection of the spent casing or manual setting of the live round.

With my latest high-power rifle purchase, I' ve gone to a Tikka bolt-action. I know that it' ll hit what I aim at and it' s up to me to eject and load another round, if need be.

I agree! I bought one last year after using one of my uncles for a couple years. He has had his 7400 270 for years and has never had a problem with it because he cleans it after he fires it. My cousin has one and has never had a problem with his. I shot a couple boxes last year with my new 7400 270 and had no problem. I was going to buy a BAR but I figured if I kept the 7400 clean it wouldn' t mess up so I saved some money (a lot IMO) and bought the 7400. If you want a semi and don' t care about spending the extra $$$ go for the BAR but the 7400 will do just fine if you keep it clean (every gun should be cleaned after being used). Clean your gun or blame yourself (not the gun) when it messes up.

i just got one last night for a graduation gift from my dad it seems like theres a 50/50 split on people that like it and dont hopefully mine will work well i havent got to shoot it yet. but it sounds like i need to keep it reallllllllly clean anyone got any tips on cleaning/ disassembling it? and what lube should i use for it? thanks,sean

Man its getting deep in here. Got to put on the hip waders. Best accuracy you can get is about 2" consistently. So I bet groups at 400 yards is 10" . Man, thats irresponsible hunting.
