RE: rem 7400?
Since the subject of Rem.semi auto is up . I have a Rem 742 that my dad gave me. My dad never mentioned that he had any problems. I haven’t used it yet so has anyone ever used the 308 caliber and had any problems and does the length of the cartridge make a difference for jamming?

I personally think they are junk. The ones I have seen are very picky with ammo and prone to jam.
If I were you I would consider a 7600 intead. The Remington pump has a free floated barrel and has accuracy that will rival many good bolt action rifles. Mine will shoot 1.5" to 1.8" groups at 200 yards. They don' t jam and they are very fast for followup shots as well.
The worst thing about a 7400 is that if you ever decide to get rid of it, you will practically have to give it away. Much the same can be said for the 7600 - but at least it' s a far superior rifle to the 7400.

Oh yes, the WAM BAM WATCH IT JAM. Think about it, if you have one of these jems in either .308 or .3006 and you dump the clip as the Red necks here in Maine often, do then you have expended more energy, if you hit, on a poor little 180 pound White Tail deer then the Average African hunter does on a 12,000 pound Elephant which is one hell of alot harder to kill. Bottom line is one hit, the first one, in the vitals is all it takes!!!!!!!!!!!

my dad has taken several bucks at 400 plus yards with his 742 30-06 and has never had a single problem with jamming. i myself have a 7400 30-06 and have never had a problem with it. we always clean uor guns after each use. most of the people complaining probobly clean their guns once a year if their lucky and ride around with them in their trucks everyday letting them fill up with dust and dirt and it sticks to the oils in the barrels and actions then their problems start and they start blaming the gun when its their fault
