alright guys here is a question for you. I am thinking of getting a 270 for deer hunting for a flat shooting gun. The choices of guns here locally for around the same price at walmart and another local gun store are a remington 700 adl, savage 110 ,weatherby vanguard, and for a 200 dollars cheaper a mossberg 100 atr. The remington comes with a scope that says remington on it. The savage has a simmons scope on it. What is your all opinion on these guns. Also a remington sps700 is about 75 dollars more with out a scope. Thanks for the help guys chris

FIrst off the package deal scopes suck. Its the same thing you can get for $30.00 in the bubble pack at Wal-Mart. Any of the rifles you mentioned will fill the purpose perposed just fine. I would suggest shouldering each and taking the one that gives a better natural point of aim for you. As for the Mossberg I have several friends with them and they are a bare bones machine but do a good jop at what they do. You may want to entertain the thought of one of them so you have extra money for a scope if things are tight.

Ok as a former wal*mart sporting goods employee ( part time job ) I would agree to stay away from the pkg deal unless buying one without the scope is gonna leave you without a scope do to your funds. That being said I would buy the weatherby vangard , probablly the most gun for the money , and the .270 is an excellent choice of anything the avg. guy is gonna hunt . As for a scope I would buy a leapould 3x9 vari x 2 , again a lot of scope for the money. well there is my .2 cents worth lol

Exactly! The one that fits you is the one to buy.

If it has a package scope on it, carefully remove it, along with the rings, and usethat opticas a door stop, or a garden trowell, or a makeshift hammer...

All the rifles mentioned are capable of great accuracy, & they all will hold together well, too. Remember, though, that real scopes start at about $100, and that's for a fixed power scopewith fully multicoated glass.More features come at a higher expense.

So, if you see a 4.5-14 x 50 mm AO scope for $125, run like hell!

X2 -- People get all wrapped up in this gun or that gun rather than addressing the most important item:
"How does it fit your unique body frame?"

Funny thing though, I think many folks don't know good fit when they see it or know how to get it if the rifle they really want don't have it; while one can't always make a rifle fit, if the drop is correct then the length is easily adjusted and that's 80% of the battle.

A "no neck" lineman and a "pencil neck" string bean will gravitate to very different stock patterns.... that is,if they know what they are looking for, part of good riflemanship.

Give me a rifle of proper weightthat fits me well andhas a robust cartridge and most the other issues are two thirds whipped.... including recoil.

All I can say is don't even look at the mossberg.
Out of the ones you are looking at I would have to say the Weatherby Vanguard but I am not saying the Savage or the Remington is not good I just feel you get more for your money with the Weatherby.
